Doc Rivers Stands by Comments Accusing ICE of ‘Straight Up Murder’

February 2, 2026
in Americas

Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers made headlines recently when he stood by his criticism of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), boldly stating that the agency’s training is “horrible.” This statement came before the highly anticipated game between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics, and has sparked a heated debate among fans and critics alike.

Rivers, who has been an outspoken advocate for social justice and equality, did not mince words when discussing his views on ICE. He firmly believes that the agency’s actions have resulted in “straight up murder,” and he refuses to back down from this stance despite facing backlash from some members of the public.

The controversy surrounding ICE has been ongoing for years, but it has recently come to the forefront of national attention. The agency has faced intense scrutiny for its treatment of immigrants and the conditions in which they are being held. Many have accused ICE of violating human rights and engaging in inhumane practices.

Rivers’ comments have only added fuel to the fire, as they have sparked a larger conversation about the role of professional athletes in speaking out against societal issues. Some have praised Rivers for using his platform to shed light on important issues, while others have criticized him for making such bold statements without offering a solution.

Regardless of where one stands on the issue, it is clear that Rivers’ comments have struck a chord with many. In a time where tensions are high and emotions are running rampant, it takes courage to speak out against injustices and stand up for what one believes in. And that is exactly what Rivers has done.

As a head coach in the NBA, Rivers has a significant influence on his players and fans. He has used his position to not only lead his team to success on the court, but also to be a role model for social change. And he is not alone in this effort. Many other athletes, both in the NBA and across other sports leagues, have also been vocal about issues such as police brutality, racism, and immigration.

While some may argue that sports and politics should not mix, it is important to recognize that professional athletes are not just entertainers. They are also human beings with their own beliefs and values, and they have the right to use their platform to bring attention to important issues. In fact, many argue that it is their responsibility to do so, as they have the power to reach and influence a large audience.

Rivers’ comments have sparked a larger conversation about the role of ICE and the treatment of immigrants in the United States. It has also brought attention to the fact that there are still many issues that need to be addressed and improved upon in our society. And while some may not agree with his views, it is important to remember that everyone has the right to their own opinion and to express it freely.

In the end, the most important thing is that we continue to have open and respectful discussions about these important issues. Only then can we work towards finding solutions and creating a more just and equal society for all. And for that, we can thank Doc Rivers for using his voice and platform to bring attention to these issues and inspire change.
