1,000 Tourists Got Stuck in Guadalajara Zoo During Mexico Cartel Terror Spree

February 25, 2026
in Americas

The beautiful city of Guadalajara in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, is known for its vibrant culture, delicious food, and friendly locals. However, this past weekend, the peaceful atmosphere of the city was shattered by a wave of terror unleashed by the notorious Cartel Jalisco New Generation (CJNG). The death of their leader, Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, sparked a violent spree that left over a thousand tourists stranded at the Guadalajara City Zoo.

The CJNG, considered to be one of the most dangerous and powerful drug cartels in Mexico, has been responsible for countless acts of violence and terror in the country. Their leader, El Mencho, was known for his ruthless tactics and brutal control over the drug trade. His death was seen as a significant blow to the cartel, and they retaliated with a show of force that left the city of Guadalajara reeling.

The chaos and fear caused by the CJNG’s violence had a direct impact on the tourists visiting the Guadalajara City Zoo. As the news of the cartel’s terror spread, the zoo was forced to shut down, leaving over a thousand visitors stranded inside. The situation was tense, and the tourists were scared and unsure of what was happening outside the zoo’s walls.

Local outlets reported that the CJNG had set up roadblocks and checkpoints around the city, making it impossible for anyone to leave. The streets were also filled with armed men, creating a sense of fear and uncertainty among the trapped tourists. Many of them were foreign visitors who were not familiar with the dangers of the drug cartels in Mexico.

The situation at the zoo was chaotic, with visitors taking refuge in various animal enclosures and buildings, hoping to stay safe from the violence outside. The zoo staff did their best to keep the tourists calm and informed, but the fear and tension were palpable. For hours, the tourists were stuck inside the zoo, not knowing when they would be able to leave and return to their homes.

Thankfully, the Mexican authorities acted swiftly and were able to regain control of the situation. They were able to remove the roadblocks and secure the city, allowing the trapped tourists to leave the zoo safely. The CJNG’s terror spree had come to an end, and the city of Guadalajara could start to heal from the trauma.

The incident at the Guadalajara City Zoo serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against drug cartels in Mexico. The CJNG’s violent retaliation after the death of their leader is a stark reminder of the power and influence these criminal organizations hold over the country. It is a concerning and unfortunate reality that innocent civilians, including tourists, often become collateral damage in these violent acts.

However, amidst the chaos and fear, there is also a glimmer of hope. The swift response of the Mexican authorities to the situation at the zoo shows that they are committed to protecting their citizens and visitors from the dangers of the drug cartels. It is a testament to the resilience and strength of the Mexican people, who refuse to be intimidated by these criminal organizations.

As the city of Guadalajara starts to recover from the CJNG’s terror spree, it is essential to remember the positive aspects of this beautiful city. The Guadalajara City Zoo, with its diverse range of animals and educational programs, is a popular tourist destination that should not be overshadowed by this unfortunate incident. It is a place for families to enjoy and learn about the wonders of nature, and it will continue to welcome visitors with open arms.

In conclusion, the recent events at the Guadalajara City Zoo serve as a reminder of the ongoing battle against drug cartels in Mexico. The CJNG’s terror spree not only left a thousand tourists stranded but also caused fear and chaos in the city of Guadalajara. However, it is heartening to see the swift response of the Mexican authorities and the determination of the Mexican people to not let these criminal organizations hold their city captive. Let us not allow the actions of a few to overshadow the beauty and positivity of this vibrant city.
