It was meant to be a dreamy holiday for the couple, jetting off to the picturesque Tofo Beach in Mozambique. But little did they know that their trip would turn into a life-threatening experience. As they were enjoying breakfast, the calm morning suddenly turned into a nightmare as Cyclone Gezani hit the coast with full force.

For those who are not familiar, Cyclone Gezani was a category 4 tropical cyclone that hit Mozambique in February 2021. It brought heavy rains, strong winds, and massive storm surges, causing widespread destruction and claiming many lives. The fact that Marc and Anwar survived this deadly cyclone is nothing short of a miracle.

In an interview with SurgeZirc SA, Marc and Anwar shared their harrowing experience and how they managed to survive the cyclone. “It was the scariest moment of our lives,” Marc recalls. “We were sitting in our hotel room, enjoying our breakfast, when suddenly the wind started howling and the rain came pouring down. We could hear the sound of trees snapping and roofs being ripped off. It was chaos.”

With no time to waste, the couple quickly gathered their belongings and made their way to the hotel’s underground shelter. “We were fortunate enough to have a shelter in our hotel, and we knew we had to get there as quickly as possible,” Anwar says. “But the journey to the shelter was terrifying. We had to walk through waist-deep water, and the wind was so strong that it was pushing us back. We were holding onto each other for dear life.”

Despite the fear and uncertainty, Marc and Anwar managed to reach the shelter safely. But the cyclone was far from over, and they had to spend the next few hours huddled together with other guests, praying for their safety. “It was a long and terrifying wait, but we were grateful to be alive,” Marc says.

After the cyclone passed, Marc and Anwar were relieved to find out that their hotel was relatively unscathed. However, the same could not be said for the surrounding areas. The destruction caused by Cyclone Gezani was devastating, with many homes and businesses destroyed, and many lives lost. Marc and Anwar’s hearts went out to the people of Mozambique, and they knew they had to do something to help.

“We were lucky to have survived, but many others were not as fortunate,” Anwar says. “We knew we had to do something to help the people of Mozambique, who had welcomed us with open arms. So, we decided to use our platform to raise awareness and funds for the cyclone victims.”

Marc and Anwar’s efforts did not go unnoticed, and they received an overwhelming response from their fans and followers. Together, they were able to raise a significant amount of money, which was donated to various relief organizations working in Mozambique.

Looking back at their near-death experience, Marc and Anwar are grateful for their survival and the opportunity to help others. “It’s a reminder to never take anything for granted,” Marc says. “We were just enjoying a romantic holiday, and it could have ended very differently. We are counting our blessings and are determined to make a positive impact in any way we can.”
