Starmer campaign group’s alarming assault on press freedom

February 17, 2026
in Asia

As an observer of British politics, it has been fascinating to witness the inner workings of the Labour party in recent years. The rise and fall of Jeremy Corbyn, the infighting and power struggles within the party, and the never-ending battle for control. But perhaps the most intriguing aspect of it all is the role played by Morgan McSweeney and Labour Together.

For those unfamiliar, Morgan McSweeney is a former advisor to Tony Blair and a key figure within Labour Together, a group formed to unite the various factions within the party. However, as time has passed, their actions have come under scrutiny, with many accusing them of acting as a “fifth column” within the Labour party.

The term “fifth column” refers to a group that operates within a country or organization, working to undermine it from within. In this case, many believe that McSweeney and Labour Together were working to seize control from the Corbynites, the supporters of former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Their tactics have been described as dirty and underhanded, with accusations of smear campaigns and attacks on journalists who exposed their actions. And now, as Keir Starmer takes the reins as the new leader of the Labour party, the consequences of their deception are beginning to surface.

It is no secret that the Labour party has been plagued by infighting for years, with different factions vying for control. But the actions of McSweeney and Labour Together have only added fuel to the fire. By working behind the scenes to manipulate the party and its members, they have sowed seeds of division and mistrust, making it difficult for the party to come together and present a united front.

Their influence was particularly evident during the 2019 general election, where Labour suffered a devastating defeat. Many have pointed to Labour Together’s involvement as a contributing factor, as they pushed for a second referendum on Brexit, a stance that ultimately alienated many traditional Labour voters.

But now, as Keir Starmer takes over as leader, the consequences of their actions are becoming clear. Starmer’s attempts to unite the party and move forward have been met with resistance from the Corbynites, who feel betrayed by the party’s shift away from the left-wing policies they championed.

The recent suspension of former leader Jeremy Corbyn from the party over his response to a damning report on anti-Semitism within Labour has only added fuel to the fire. Many see this as a direct attack on the Corbynites and a move by Starmer to distance himself from their influence.

But ultimately, it is the Labour party and its supporters who suffer the most from this division and infighting. As the country continues to grapple with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the looming economic crisis, a strong and united opposition is more important than ever. But the actions of Morgan McSweeney and Labour Together have left the party weakened and divided.

It is time for the Labour party to come together and put an end to this destructive infighting. Keir Starmer must take a firm stance against those who seek to undermine the party and work towards building a united front. Only then can Labour hope to present a real challenge to the current government and offer a viable alternative to the British public.

In conclusion, the actions of Morgan McSweeney and Labour Together may have seemed like a cunning strategy at the time, but their deception is now coming home to roost for Keir Starmer and the Labour party. It is time for the party to unite and focus on the real issues at hand, rather than being consumed by internal power struggles. The future of the Labour party and the country as a whole depends on it.
