FEV Analysis: TCO Cut by Up to 33 Percent Through Range Extender Trucks

in Africa

AACHEN, GERMANY – FEV, a leading global engineering company, has recently released new analysis results on the economic efficiency of electrified commercial vehicles. These findings were part of an internal research program and have been highly anticipated by the industry. The evaluation of extensive techno-economic data has revealed that through trucks with range extender architecture (REEV/Hybrid BEV), the total cost of ownership (TCO) can be reduced by up to 33 percent, depending on the driving cycle.

This is a significant breakthrough in the field of commercial vehicles, as TCO is a crucial factor for businesses when considering the adoption of new technologies. With the rising demand for sustainable transportation solutions, this new analysis by FEV is a game-changer for the industry.

The study conducted by FEV focused on the comparison of conventional diesel trucks with electrified trucks, specifically those with range extender architecture. The results showed that the REEV/Hybrid BEV trucks have a lower TCO due to their lower operating costs, including fuel and maintenance expenses.

One of the key factors contributing to the lower TCO of range extender trucks is their ability to operate on both electric and conventional fuel. This flexibility allows businesses to choose the most cost-effective option, depending on their specific needs and driving cycles. This is especially beneficial for long-haul transportation, where electric-only trucks may not be feasible due to limited charging infrastructure.

The analysis also revealed that the initial investment cost for electrified trucks is higher than conventional diesel trucks. However, this cost is offset by the lower operating costs, resulting in a significant reduction in TCO over the vehicle’s lifetime. This makes electrified trucks a more financially viable option for businesses in the long run.

FEV’s analysis also considered the environmental impact of electrified trucks. The results showed that these vehicles have a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to conventional diesel trucks. This is a crucial factor for businesses looking to reduce their carbon emissions and meet sustainability goals.

The findings of this analysis are a testament to the continuous efforts of FEV in developing innovative and sustainable solutions for the transportation industry. The company has been at the forefront of electrification, and this new research further solidifies its position as a leader in the field.

FEV’s CEO, Professor Stefan Pischinger, expressed his excitement about the results, stating, “We are thrilled to see the positive impact of electrified trucks on the TCO. This is a significant step towards achieving sustainable transportation and reducing carbon emissions. We will continue to invest in research and development to bring more efficient and eco-friendly solutions to the market.”

The news of FEV’s analysis has been met with enthusiasm by industry experts and stakeholders. This breakthrough has the potential to accelerate the adoption of electrified trucks and drive the industry towards a more sustainable future.

In conclusion, FEV’s analysis has shown that range extender trucks can reduce TCO by up to 33 percent, making them a financially viable and environmentally friendly option for businesses. This is a significant development in the field of commercial vehicles and a step towards achieving sustainable transportation. With FEV’s continuous efforts and innovation, we can expect to see more efficient and eco-friendly solutions in the future.
