Ramaphosa Calls For Patience As Madlanga Commission Interim Report Awaits Final Outcomes

February 6, 2026
in Africa

President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on the South African public to remain patient as the government works through the recommendations outlined in the interim report of the Madlanga Commission of Enquiry. The President has urged citizens to understand that the implementation of these recommendations will take time, as the final report is only set to be released in March.

In October 2020, President Ramaphosa established the Madlanga Commission of Enquiry to investigate allegations of corruption and maladministration at all levels of government. This was in response to growing public concern over the misuse of public funds and the failure to deliver basic services to communities. The commission, chaired by retired Justice Bess Nkabinde, was given until March 2021 to deliver its final report.

Since then, the commission has been conducting thorough investigations into various government departments and entities, uncovering numerous instances of mismanagement, corruption, and fraud. The interim report, which was released in January, has shed light on the extent of the rot that has plagued our government for many years.

As expected, the findings of the report have sparked intense public interest and have been met with both shock and anger. Many South Africans have expressed their frustration and disappointment, demanding swift action to hold those responsible accountable. However, President Ramaphosa has reminded the nation that the process of implementing the commission’s recommendations will not happen overnight.

In his appeal for patience, the President highlighted the complexity of the issues at hand and the need for a thorough and comprehensive approach in addressing these challenges. He noted that the recommendations contained in the interim report require careful consideration and consultation with various stakeholders before any action can be taken.

President Ramaphosa also emphasized that the process of implementing these recommendations must be done in a fair and just manner, ensuring that due process is followed and that the rights of all individuals involved are respected. This is crucial in order to avoid any legal challenges that could further delay the process.

While it is understandable that South Africans are eager to see swift action taken against those implicated in the report, we must also recognize that justice takes time. Rushing the process could result in further delays and setbacks, and ultimately, justice may not be served.

Moreover, the President highlighted that the fight against corruption requires a collective effort from all sectors of society. We cannot rely solely on the government to root out corruption; every citizen has a role to play in this fight. We must continue to hold our leaders accountable and demand transparency and accountability in all levels of government.

It is also essential to note that despite the challenges faced by our country, there have been significant strides made in the fight against corruption. The establishment of the Madlanga Commission of Enquiry itself is a testament to the government’s commitment to rooting out corruption and ensuring good governance.

In addition, President Ramaphosa has implemented various measures and strategies to improve accountability and transparency in government. This includes the introduction of lifestyle audits for public officials, the establishment of an Investigating Directorate within the National Prosecuting Authority, and the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy.

As we await the final report of the Madlanga Commission, we must have faith in the government’s commitment to addressing corruption and maladministration. It is a long and challenging process, but it is a necessary step in rebuilding our nation and restoring the trust of our people in government institutions.

In conclusion, President Ramaphosa’s call for patience is a reminder that justice takes time and that we must allow due process to take its course. As a nation, we must remain united in our fight against corruption and trust that the government will take decisive action to hold those responsible accountable. Let us continue to work together towards building a better South Africa for all.
