HKCSS Releases Inaugural Data on Caring Business Practices in Hong Kong

3,500 Companies Recognized; Support for Working Caregivers Emerges as New Benchmark for Friendly Workplaces

HONG KONG SAR – The Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) held its 2024/25 Caring Company Scheme Recognition Ceremony on January 22, 2026, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This event marked a significant milestone for Hong Kong as it recognized 3,500 companies for their outstanding efforts in supporting working caregivers.

The Caring Company Scheme, launched by HKCSS in 2002, aims to promote corporate social responsibility and encourage businesses to create a caring and inclusive workplace culture. Over the years, the scheme has evolved to include a specific focus on supporting working caregivers – employees who have to balance their work responsibilities with caregiving duties for their family members.

This year’s recognition ceremony was particularly special as it was the first time that HKCSS released data on caring business practices in Hong Kong. The data revealed that out of the 3,500 recognized companies, 1,200 of them have implemented policies and practices to support working caregivers. This is a significant increase from the 600 companies that were recognized for the same in the previous year.

The release of this data is a positive sign that more and more companies in Hong Kong are recognizing the importance of supporting their employees who are also caregivers. It is a reflection of the changing attitudes towards caregiving and the increasing awareness of the challenges faced by working caregivers.

The event was attended by representatives from the government, business sector, and non-governmental organizations, all showing their support for the Caring Company Scheme and the importance of creating a friendly workplace for working caregivers. The ceremony also featured a panel discussion where business leaders shared their experiences and best practices in supporting working caregivers.

One of the key takeaways from the panel discussion was the importance of flexibility in the workplace. Many companies have introduced flexible working arrangements, such as telecommuting and flexible working hours, to accommodate the needs of working caregivers. This not only helps employees to balance their work and caregiving duties but also increases their job satisfaction and productivity.

Another important aspect highlighted during the panel discussion was the need for companies to provide support and resources for their employees who are caregivers. This can include offering counseling services, organizing workshops and training, and providing information on available resources in the community. By doing so, companies can ease the burden on their employees and help them to better manage their caregiving responsibilities.

The recognition of 3,500 companies for their caring business practices is a significant achievement for Hong Kong. It shows that the business sector is taking a proactive approach towards creating a caring and inclusive workplace culture. This not only benefits the employees who are caregivers but also has a positive impact on the overall well-being and productivity of the workforce.

The Caring Company Scheme is not just about recognizing companies; it is also about promoting a caring and inclusive society. By encouraging businesses to support working caregivers, the scheme is helping to create a more compassionate and understanding community. It is also sending a strong message that caregiving is a shared responsibility and everyone has a role to play in supporting caregivers.

In conclusion, the 2024/25 Caring Company Scheme Recognition Ceremony was a resounding success, highlighting the growing support for working caregivers in Hong Kong. The release of data on caring business practices is a significant step towards creating a benchmark for friendly workplaces. It is hoped that this trend will continue, and more companies will join in the effort to create a caring and inclusive workplace culture for the benefit of their employees and the community as a whole.
