Five People Shot In Saulsville Informal Settlement

January 22, 2026
in Africa

Five people were shot on Wednesday afternoon outside a tuckshop in Jeffsville, an informal settlement located in Saulsville, west of Pretoria. The news of the shooting has left the community in shock and disbelief.

According to the police, officers were immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of the shooting. The incident took place near the Mdlalose community office, where the tuckshop is situated. It is reported that a group of individuals opened fire on the victims, causing mayhem and chaos in the usually peaceful community.

In a video that has been circulating on social media, the harrowing scene of the victims lying on the ground can be seen. The sound of gunshots echoes in the background, adding to the terror and fear of the onlookers. The video has caused outrage and concern among residents, who are now questioning their safety in the neighborhood.

The identities of the victims have not yet been revealed, but it is believed that they are all residents of the Jeffsville informal settlement. The motive behind the shooting is still unknown, but speculations are rife among the community.

The incident has once again highlighted the issue of violence in informal settlements, where poverty, unemployment, and lack of basic services are rampant. These settlements are often neglected and marginalized, with little to no government intervention. As a result, they become breeding grounds for crime and violence, putting the residents at constant risk.

The Saulsville community is no stranger to violence, with previous incidents of shootings and gang-related crimes. However, the shooting outside the tuckshop has left the community shaken and in fear for their lives. They are now demanding more security measures and police presence in the area to ensure their safety.

In a statement, the local police have urged the community to come forward with any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects. They have also assured the residents that they are doing everything in their power to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The incident has also sparked conversations about stricter gun control laws, with many calling for stricter regulations and more thorough background checks. It is a known fact that the availability of illegal firearms contributes to the high rate of gun violence in South Africa.

As the community of Saulsville tries to come to terms with this senseless act of violence, they have come together to support the families of the victims. Community leaders have organized a prayer service to offer comfort and solace to those affected by the shooting. They have also called for unity and solidarity among residents during this difficult time.

The shooting in Jeffsville serves as a reminder of the urgent need for government intervention in informal settlements. The lack of basic services, poverty, and high unemployment rates must be addressed to prevent these communities from becoming breeding grounds for crime. The safety and well-being of all citizens should be a top priority for the government.

In conclusion, the shooting in Saulsville has left five people injured and a community in shock. It is a tragic reminder of the violence and crime that plagues our society. We must come together as a nation to address these issues and work towards creating safer and more inclusive communities for all. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, and we hope for their speedy recovery. Let us all stand together and say no to violence.
