Watch: Mike Johnson Blasts Democrats’ Government Shutdown Hypocrisy with Their Own Words

October 1, 2025
in Americas

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has called out the Democrats for their hypocrisy as they protest against the looming government shutdown. In a powerful speech, Johnson reminded the Democrats of their own words, exposing their double standards and refusal to compromise with Republicans.

The government shutdown has been a hot topic of debate in recent weeks, with both parties struggling to come to an agreement on funding for President Trump’s proposed border wall. As the deadline for a shutdown draws closer, tensions are rising and both sides are digging in their heels.

But while Democrats have been quick to point fingers and place blame on the Republicans, Johnson has reminded them of their own past actions. In a video shared by Breitbart, Johnson can be seen addressing the House floor, calling out the Democrats for their hypocrisy.

He begins by playing a clip of Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) speaking during the 2013 government shutdown, where he stated, “It’s sort of like this: someone goes into your house, takes your wife and children hostage, and then says, ‘Let’s negotiate over the price of your house.'”

Johnson then turns to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), playing a clip of her saying, “I don’t think we should shut down the government. I think we should keep it open.” He then points out that Pelosi is now leading the charge for a government shutdown.

The House Speaker goes on to show clips of other Democrats, including Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Representative Steny Hoyer (D-MD), all expressing their opposition to government shutdowns in the past. Johnson highlights the fact that these same Democrats are now refusing to compromise and are willing to let a shutdown occur.

Johnson’s message is clear: the Democrats’ current stance on the government shutdown is hypocritical and goes against their own words and beliefs. He urges them to put aside their political agendas and work towards a solution that will benefit the American people.

The looming government shutdown is not just a political game, it has real consequences for the American people. Federal workers will go without pay, national parks and museums will close, and vital government services will be disrupted. It is time for both parties to come together and find a compromise that will keep the government running and address the issue of border security.

Johnson’s speech serves as a reminder that politicians should not be playing games with the livelihoods of the American people. It is time for the Democrats to listen to their own words and put an end to their hypocrisy. The American people deserve better than this political posturing and it is time for our leaders to put their differences aside and work towards a solution.

As the deadline for a government shutdown draws closer, let us hope that the Democrats will heed Johnson’s words and come to the table with a willingness to compromise. The American people are counting on them to do what is right and keep the government running. It is time for our leaders to put the needs of the country above their own political agendas. Let us hope that they will rise to the occasion and find a solution that benefits all Americans.
