Denmark reports new drone sightings near its biggest military base

September 29, 2025
in Europe

Unexplained drone flights were reported Saturday over several Danish military sites, including the country’s biggest base, in what officials describe as a “hybrid attack,” with possible links to Russia.

The incident has raised concerns about the security of Denmark’s military installations and has sparked a debate about the use of drones in warfare.

According to reports, the drones were spotted flying over the Thule Air Base, which is located in the northern part of the country and is used by the US Air Force for ballistic missile early warning system. The drones were also seen over the naval base in Frederikshavn, where Denmark’s largest warship is stationed.

The Danish Defense Minister, Trine Bramsen, has called the incident a “serious and systematic attack” and has vowed to take necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future. She also stated that the Danish government is working closely with its allies, including the US and NATO, to investigate the matter and identify the perpetrators.

The use of drones in warfare has become increasingly common in recent years, with many countries using them for surveillance and targeted strikes. However, the use of drones in a hybrid attack, where they are used to gather intelligence and disrupt military operations, is a new and concerning development.

Experts believe that the drones used in the attack were sophisticated and could have been controlled remotely from a distance. This has led to speculation that the attack may have been carried out by a state actor, with Russia being the prime suspect.

Russia has been accused of using hybrid warfare tactics in the past, including cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns. The use of drones in this attack is seen as a continuation of these tactics, aimed at destabilizing and creating chaos in the region.

The Danish government has not yet confirmed the involvement of Russia in the attack, but the incident has raised tensions between the two countries. In response to the incident, the Danish government has increased security measures at its military sites and has urged the public to remain vigilant.

The incident has also sparked a debate about the use of drones in warfare and the need for stricter regulations. While drones have proven to be effective in military operations, their use in a hybrid attack has raised concerns about their potential misuse.

Some experts argue that the use of drones in warfare should be strictly regulated and monitored to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. Others believe that the technology used in drones is constantly evolving and it is difficult to regulate their use effectively.

Despite the concerns raised by this incident, it is important to remember the positive impact that drones have had in military operations. They have been used for humanitarian purposes, such as delivering medical supplies and aid to remote areas, and have also been used in search and rescue missions.

In addition, the use of drones has also reduced the risk of casualties for military personnel, as they can be used for surveillance and targeted strikes without putting soldiers in harm’s way.

The Danish government has assured the public that it is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of its military sites. It has also called for international cooperation in addressing the issue of hybrid attacks and preventing them from happening in the future.

In conclusion, the recent drone flights over Danish military sites have raised concerns about the security of the country’s military installations. The incident is being investigated and the Danish government is working closely with its allies to identify the perpetrators. While the use of drones in a hybrid attack is a concerning development, it is important to remember the positive impact that drones have had in military operations. It is crucial for countries to work together to address the issue of hybrid warfare and prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
