3 dead in Indonesia after angry mob torches regional parliament building

September 1, 2025
in Asia

An act of violence and destruction has shocked the people of Indonesia’s South Sulawesi province as an enraged crowd set fire to a regional parliament building, resulting in the loss of lives and injuries. The incident, which took place on Saturday, has left the nation in a state of mourning and disbelief.

According to officials, at least three people were killed and five others were injured in the blaze, which quickly spread through the parliament building. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed to have been started by a group of angry protesters who were demonstrating outside the building.

The incident has caused widespread outrage and condemnation from leaders and citizens alike. President Joko Widodo has expressed his deep sorrow and has promised to bring the perpetrators to justice. He has urged the public to remain calm and not resort to violence in the face of such a tragic event.

The parliament building, which is a symbol of democracy and the voice of the people, has been reduced to ashes. This act of destruction not only affects the physical structure, but also strikes at the heart of the democratic values that Indonesia holds dear. It is a sad day for the nation, as we witness the loss of lives and the destruction of our democratic institution.

The incident has also raised concerns about the safety and security of public buildings, especially those that house important government offices. The government must take immediate action to ensure the safety of its citizens and to prevent such tragic events from happening in the future.

In the midst of this tragedy, it is heartening to see the spirit of unity and resilience among the people of Indonesia. The nation has come together to mourn the loss of lives and to show support for the victims and their families. This is a testament to the strength and solidarity of our people in the face of adversity.

The incident in South Sulawesi serves as a reminder that we must remain vigilant and united as a nation. Acts of violence and destruction have no place in a civilized society and we must condemn them in the strongest terms. It is only through peaceful and democratic means that we can bring about positive change and progress for our country.

As we mourn the loss of lives and the destruction of our parliament building, let us also remember the values of democracy and unity that bind us together as a nation. Let us honor the memory of the victims by standing together and working towards a better and brighter future for Indonesia.

In conclusion, the tragic incident in South Sulawesi is a wake-up call for all of us to cherish and protect our democratic values. We must come together as a nation to heal and rebuild, and to ensure that such senseless acts of violence do not happen again. Let us remember the lives lost and strive towards a peaceful and prosperous Indonesia.
