Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass recently opened up about her experience during the devastating fires that ravaged the city. In an interview with “The New Yorker Radio Hour” released on Friday, Bass shared her feelings of guilt and pain for being out of the country during such a crisis.

Bass expressed her regret for not being in Los Angeles when the fires broke out. She said, “Being out of the country during the fires was very painful. You feel awful about it.” As a leader, she felt a sense of responsibility towards her city and its people, and not being physically present during such a difficult time was hard for her to come to terms with.

The mayor also acknowledged the anger and frustration that some people may have felt towards her for not being there. She said, “Being mad at me helped people grieve. It’s a natural reaction to feel angry when someone is not there for you in a time of need.” However, she also emphasized that her absence was not intentional and that she was doing her best to handle the situation from afar.

Bass also shared that she was in constant communication with her team and was closely monitoring the situation. She was in touch with the fire department, the police department, and other officials to ensure that everything was being done to control the fires and keep the citizens safe.

Despite not being physically present, Bass played a crucial role in managing the crisis. She coordinated with other government agencies and provided support to the firefighters and first responders. She also worked with local organizations to provide aid and assistance to those affected by the fires.

The mayor’s absence during the fires may have been painful for her, but it did not go unnoticed by the people of Los Angeles. Many citizens took to social media to express their gratitude and support for Bass, acknowledging her efforts and dedication towards the city.

Bass also addressed the criticism she received for being away during the fires. She said, “I understand the criticism, and I take it to heart. But I also know that I did everything in my power to help my city, even from a distance.”

In times of crisis, it is natural for people to look towards their leaders for guidance and support. And Mayor Bass proved that even when she was not physically present, she was still fulfilling her duties and responsibilities as the leader of Los Angeles.

As the city recovers from the aftermath of the fires, Mayor Bass continues to work tirelessly to ensure that the citizens are taken care of. She has been actively involved in the rebuilding process and has been working towards making the city more resilient to such disasters in the future.

In conclusion, Mayor Karen Bass’s absence during the fires may have been painful for her, but it did not stop her from fulfilling her duties as the leader of Los Angeles. Her dedication and efforts towards managing the crisis from afar are commendable and have not gone unnoticed by the people. As the city moves forward, Mayor Bass’s leadership and resilience will continue to guide and inspire the citizens of Los Angeles.
