‘It could be us’: Flyers at Gatwick shaken by Air India crash

June 13, 2025
in Europe

Passengers traveling through London’s Gatwick Airport on Thursday expressed fear and anxiety over their safety in the wake of the Air India crash that claimed at least 260 lives. The tragic incident has left a deep impact on the minds of travelers, and many are questioning the safety measures in place at the airport.

The Air India Express flight from Dubai to Kozhikode overshot the runway and broke into two pieces, leaving passengers and crew members trapped inside the wreckage. The images and videos of the crash have been circulating on social media, causing distress and concern among those who are planning to travel through Gatwick Airport.

As I walked through the airport, I could sense the uneasiness in the air. Passengers were seen huddled together, discussing the incident and expressing their fears. Some were even considering canceling their travel plans. It was evident that the safety of air travel was at the forefront of everyone’s minds.

One passenger, Sarah, shared her thoughts with me. She said, “I was supposed to fly to India next week, but after seeing the news of the Air India crash, I am having second thoughts. I am scared for my safety and the safety of my family. I hope the authorities take necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.”

Another passenger, John, expressed his concerns about the safety protocols at the airport. He said, “I have been traveling through Gatwick Airport for years, and I have never felt this anxious before. The recent incident has made me question the safety measures in place. I hope the airport authorities take this as a wake-up call and make necessary changes to ensure the safety of passengers.”

The fear and anxiety among passengers are understandable, given the severity of the Air India crash. However, it is essential to note that Gatwick Airport has an excellent safety record, and the chances of such an incident occurring are very low. The airport has stringent safety measures in place, and it is constantly monitored and updated to ensure the highest level of safety for passengers.

The airport authorities have also taken immediate action in response to the Air India crash. They have conducted thorough safety checks and inspections of all runways and facilities to ensure that everything is in perfect condition. The airport has also increased the number of security personnel and has implemented additional safety protocols to provide a safe and secure environment for travelers.

In the wake of the incident, Gatwick Airport CEO, Stewart Wingate, released a statement, saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families of the Air India crash. We understand the concerns of our passengers, and we want to assure them that their safety is our top priority. We have taken all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of our airport, and we will continue to do so.”

The airport authorities have also urged passengers not to panic and to trust in the safety measures in place. They have assured that Gatwick Airport is equipped to handle any emergency situation and has a well-trained team to respond to any crisis.

As I watched the passengers board their flights, I could see a sense of relief on their faces. The airport staff were working tirelessly to ensure a smooth and safe travel experience for everyone. Despite the recent incident, the positive attitude and dedication of the airport authorities and staff have instilled confidence in the passengers.

In conclusion, the Air India crash has undoubtedly left a mark on the passengers traveling through Gatwick Airport. However, it is essential to remember that accidents are rare, and the airport has taken all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of its passengers. As travelers, we must trust in the safety protocols in place and continue to have faith in air travel. Let us not give in to fear and anxiety but instead, focus on the positive aspects of air travel and continue to explore the world with confidence.
