Sudan’s army accuses pro-Haftar forces of launching cross-border attack

June 11, 2025
in Africa

The Sudanese army has recently made a shocking accusation against troops loyal to Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar. In a statement released on Tuesday, the army claimed that Haftar’s troops had assaulted border posts, marking the first time Sudan has directly implicated its neighboring country in the ongoing conflict.

This accusation has caused great concern and raised tensions between Sudan and Libya, two nations that have long shared a peaceful relationship. The Sudanese army has provided evidence to support their claim, including surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts.

The alleged assault took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning, when a group of armed men believed to be affiliated with Haftar’s forces crossed into Sudanese territory and attacked border posts in the eastern region. This resulted in clashes between the Sudanese army and the intruders, resulting in casualties on both sides.

The Sudanese government has condemned this act of aggression and has called for an immediate investigation into the matter. They have also demanded that Haftar’s forces withdraw from their country’s borders and respect their sovereignty.

This incident is not the first time Haftar’s forces have been accused of violating international laws and agreements. In recent years, they have been accused of carrying out attacks on civilians and disrupting peace and stability in the region. The Sudanese government has previously expressed its concerns about the influence of Haftar’s forces in Libya, citing their close ties to certain militant groups and their disregard for the rule of law.

The Sudanese army’s accusation has been met with strong condemnation from the international community. The United Nations has called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and urged all parties to refrain from any actions that could further escalate tensions in the region.

Meanwhile, the Sudanese government has assured its citizens and the international community that it is taking all necessary measures to protect its borders and maintain peace and stability. They have also stated that they have no intention of engaging in any form of conflict with their neighboring country.

This latest development has once again highlighted the need for regional cooperation and diplomacy to resolve conflicts. It has also brought to light the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of neighboring nations.

The Sudanese army’s accusation has also shed light on the dire situation in Libya, which has been embroiled in a civil war since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The country remains deeply divided, with various factions vying for control, and the constant threat of violence and instability. The international community must come together to find a peaceful solution and support the efforts of the Libyan people to build a stable and democratic nation.

In conclusion, the Sudanese army’s accusation against Haftar’s forces is a serious matter that demands immediate attention and action. It is a reminder of the need for peaceful and diplomatic solutions to conflicts and the importance of respecting the sovereignty of neighboring countries. The international community must work together to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Libya and ensure the safety and security of its people and its neighbors.
