Maxine Waters: Trump Is ‘Cruel, Dishonorable Human’ for Deploying National Guard to L.A. Protests

in Americas

Representative Maxine Waters, a Democrat from California, did not mince her words when she appeared on CNN’s “Newsroom” on Sunday. She denounced President Donald Trump for his decision to deploy National Guard troops to Los Angeles amid ongoing protests against police brutality. Waters called Trump a “cruel, dishonorable human being” for taking such action.

The fiery congresswoman criticized Trump for using the National Guard to suppress peaceful protests instead of addressing the root cause of the demonstrations, which is the systemic racism and police brutality that continues to plague our country. She accused the president of being more concerned with his own image and political gain rather than the well-being of the American people.

Waters’ scathing remarks came as thousands of protesters took to the streets of Los Angeles to demand justice for George Floyd, a black man who was killed by a white police officer in Minneapolis. The protests, which have spread across the nation, have been largely peaceful, with the exception of a few isolated incidents of violence.

Instead of listening to the voices of the protesters and taking meaningful action to address the issues at hand, Trump has chosen to escalate the situation by deploying National Guard troops. This move has been heavily criticized by both Democrats and Republicans, who argue that it only serves to further agitate an already tense situation.

But it is not just Waters who has condemned Trump’s actions. Many other political figures, celebrities, and citizens have also spoken out against the deployment of the National Guard. They argue that it only serves to intensify the fear and anger felt by the protesters and undermines their right to peacefully assemble.

In her interview, Waters also highlighted the stark contrast between Trump’s response to the protests and his reaction to the armed protesters who stormed the Michigan Capitol in April, demanding an end to the state’s lockdown measures. Trump had called these individuals “very good people” and even tweeted his support for their actions. This blatant double standard has not gone unnoticed by Waters and others who are calling out the president’s hypocrisy.

Waters also did not shy away from addressing the underlying issue of race in these protests. She stated that it is time for white Americans to acknowledge their privilege and work towards dismantling the systemic racism that has plagued this country for far too long.

“We’ve got to talk about race,” Waters said. “We’ve got to change the way people think about what is happening in this country and the way they have been taught to think about race.”

Waters’ powerful words resonate with the millions of protesters who have taken to the streets to demand an end to police brutality and systemic racism. Her message of unity and justice is one that we should all take to heart.

As the protests continue, it is imperative that we listen to voices like Waters’ and work towards creating meaningful change. It is time for our leaders to step up and address the root causes of these protests instead of resorting to violence and suppression.

In the end, it is clear that Waters’ criticism of Trump is not just about his decision to deploy the National Guard, but it is also a larger condemnation of his lack of leadership and empathy during this critical time in our nation’s history. It is a call to action for all of us to demand better from our leaders and to work towards creating a more just and equal society for all.
