China cites mutual openness to expand EU ties, manage disputes: Xi

In a recent meeting with the European Union (EU), Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his country’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with the EU by promoting mutual openness and managing disputes constructively. This statement, reported by state-run news agency Xinhua, reflects China’s commitment to building a stronger and more constructive relationship with its European partners.

President Xi’s remarks come at a time when the world is facing numerous challenges, including trade tensions and global economic uncertainties. In light of these challenges, President Xi emphasized the importance of cooperation and mutual understanding between China and the EU.

China and the EU have long been strategic partners, with strong economic ties. The EU is China’s largest trading partner, while China is the EU’s second-largest trading partner. In 2018, the total trade volume between the two reached a record high of 682.2 billion euros, according to data from the European Commission. This strong economic relationship has brought significant benefits to both sides, and President Xi’s call for deeper cooperation only reinforces the potential for even greater benefits in the future.

President Xi highlighted the need for mutual openness between China and the EU, emphasizing that it is essential for promoting trade and investment. He also stressed that China is committed to further opening up its market and creating a more attractive business environment for foreign companies. This is a clear indication of China’s determination to deepen its economic ties with the EU and to continue to be a major contributor to global economic growth.

Moreover, President Xi emphasized the importance of managing disputes constructively. While disagreements and differences are inevitable in any relationship, the key is to address them through dialogue and cooperation. China and the EU have a long-standing history of cooperation and have successfully resolved many disputes through constructive dialogue. This approach has not only strengthened the relationship between the two sides but has also brought about mutual benefits.

President Xi also proposed expanding cooperation in areas such as technology, innovation, and green development. These are areas where both China and the EU have great potential for collaboration. By working together, they can not only achieve common development but also contribute to solving global challenges such as climate change.

The EU has recently faced some challenges in its relationship with China, particularly concerning trade and investment. However, President Xi’s statement shows that China is committed to addressing these issues through constructive dialogue and cooperation. This is a positive step towards building a stronger and more mutually beneficial partnership between the two sides.

In addition to economic cooperation, President Xi also stressed the importance of cultural exchanges and people-to-people ties. China and the EU have a long history of cultural exchange, and President Xi’s call for deeper cooperation in this area will only enhance understanding and friendship between the two sides.

The EU has welcomed President Xi’s remarks, with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stating that the EU is ready to work with China to deepen their partnership. This positive response from the EU shows that President Xi’s statement has been well-received and has the potential to pave the way for a stronger and more cooperative relationship between China and the EU.

In conclusion, President Xi’s statement on deepening cooperation with the EU is a positive and encouraging step towards building a stronger partnership between the two sides. By promoting mutual openness and managing disputes constructively, China and the EU can further strengthen their economic ties and contribute to global stability and prosperity. As partners, China and the EU have a responsibility to work together for the mutual benefit of their people and the world at large. With a shared commitment to cooperation, there is no doubt that the future holds great potential for a stronger and more prosperous relationship between China and the EU.
