Canadian Conservatives Back Poilievre After Election Defeat

Prominent Canadian Conservatives have come out in support of Pierre Poilievre, despite his defeat in the recent federal election. The former Conservative Party leader lost his own seat on Monday, but many within the party are urging him to stay on as leader.

Poilievre, who has been a Member of Parliament since 2004, was seen as a strong contender for the Conservative Party leadership after Andrew Scheer stepped down in 2019. However, his defeat in the riding of Carleton, Ontario has raised questions about his future within the party.

Despite this setback, many high-profile Conservatives have expressed their unwavering support for Poilievre. Former Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who handpicked Poilievre as his parliamentary secretary, praised his leadership and called for him to remain at the helm of the party.

In a statement to Breitbart, Harper said, “Pierre Poilievre is a strong and principled leader who has been a valuable asset to the Conservative Party. His dedication and hard work have been instrumental in shaping the party’s policies and vision for Canada. I have full confidence in his ability to continue leading the party and I urge him to stay on as leader.”

Other prominent Conservatives, including former cabinet ministers Lisa Raitt and Peter MacKay, have also voiced their support for Poilievre. Raitt, who served as Deputy Leader under Scheer, tweeted, “Pierre Poilievre is a fighter and a true conservative. He has my full support and I believe he should continue to lead the party.”

MacKay, who was also a contender for the party leadership, echoed similar sentiments, saying, “Pierre Poilievre is a strong and effective leader who has the support of many within the party. He has shown great resilience and determination in the face of defeat and I believe he should continue to lead the Conservative Party.”

The overwhelming support for Poilievre from within the party is a testament to his leadership and the impact he has had on the Conservative movement in Canada. Despite facing a tough defeat in his own riding, Poilievre has remained steadfast in his commitment to the party and its values.

In his concession speech on election night, Poilievre thanked his supporters and vowed to continue fighting for conservative principles. “We may have lost this battle, but the fight for a stronger and more prosperous Canada continues. I will not stop fighting for the values and beliefs that unite us as Conservatives,” he said.

Poilievre’s determination and resilience have not gone unnoticed by the Canadian public. Many have taken to social media to express their admiration for him and to urge him to stay on as leader of the Conservative Party.

One Twitter user wrote, “Pierre Poilievre may have lost his seat, but he has not lost the support of the Canadian people. We need his strong leadership now more than ever. Please stay on as leader, Mr. Poilievre.”

Another user tweeted, “Pierre Poilievre is a true conservative and a strong leader. He has my full support and I believe he should continue to lead the Conservative Party.”

The outpouring of support for Poilievre from both within the party and from the Canadian public is a clear indication of the impact he has had as a leader. Despite the disappointment of losing his own seat, Poilievre’s leadership and dedication to conservative values have not wavered.

As the Conservative Party looks towards the future, it is clear that Pierre Poilievre has the support and backing of many within the party. His leadership and vision for Canada have resonated with Canadians, and it is this unwavering support that will continue to drive the Conservative movement forward.

In the words of former Prime Minister Stephen Harper, “Pierre Poilievre is the right leader for the Conservative Party and for Canada. He has my full support and I urge him to stay on as leader.” With such strong backing from within the party, it is clear that Pierre Poilievre’s leadership is here to stay.
