Aid groups slam Sudan’s RSF for 112 deaths in refugee camp attack

in Africa

International aid groups have expressed their outrage and condemnation over the recent attack by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces on the Zamzam refugee camp in North Darfur. The attack, which took place on Saturday, resulted in the death of at least 112 people and left many others injured.

The Zamzam refugee camp is home to thousands of people who have been displaced by the ongoing conflict in Darfur. These innocent civilians have already endured unimaginable suffering and now they have been subjected to yet another senseless act of violence.

According to eyewitnesses, the attack was carried out by armed men on horseback who stormed the camp, firing indiscriminately at the residents and setting fire to their homes. The attack lasted for several hours, leaving behind a trail of destruction and devastation.

The international community has been quick to condemn this heinous act and call for immediate action to bring the perpetrators to justice. The United Nations has described the attack as a “blatant violation of international humanitarian law” and has called for an independent investigation into the incident.

The European Union has also expressed its deep concern over the attack and has urged the Sudanese government to take immediate measures to protect the civilians in the refugee camp. The EU has also called for an end to the violence in Darfur and for all parties involved to engage in peaceful dialogue to find a lasting solution to the conflict.

The African Union has also joined in the condemnation, stating that the attack on the Zamzam camp is a clear violation of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights. The AU has called on the Sudanese government to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and protection of the refugees in the camp.

The attack on the Zamzam refugee camp is just the latest in a series of violent incidents that have occurred in Darfur in recent months. The region has been plagued by conflict for over a decade, resulting in the displacement of millions of people and the loss of countless lives.

The international aid groups working in Darfur have been providing much-needed assistance to the refugees, including food, shelter, and medical aid. However, with the recent attack, their work has become even more challenging as they now have to deal with the aftermath of the violence and provide support to the affected communities.

The aid groups have called for urgent action to be taken to ensure the safety and security of the refugees in the Zamzam camp. They have also appealed for increased support and resources to be provided to help them continue their vital work in the region.

It is important for the international community to stand in solidarity with the people of Darfur and support the efforts of the aid groups in providing assistance to those in need. The attack on the Zamzam camp is a stark reminder of the ongoing crisis in Darfur and the urgent need for a peaceful resolution.

The Sudanese government must also take responsibility for the safety and protection of its citizens, including those living in refugee camps. The attack on the Zamzam camp is a clear indication of the failure of the government to fulfill its duty to protect its people.

In the face of such tragedy, it is heartening to see the international community coming together to condemn this brutal attack and call for justice. The victims of the attack and their families deserve nothing less.

In conclusion, the international aid groups have strongly condemned the attack on the Zamzam refugee camp in North Darfur and have called for immediate action to be taken to bring the perpetrators to justice. It is time for the Sudanese government to take decisive action to end the violence in Darfur and ensure the safety and protection of its citizens. The international community must also continue to support the aid groups in their efforts to provide assistance to those in need. Together, we can work towards a peaceful and prosperous future for the people of Darfur.
