Thune Calls Senate Democrats’ Bluff, Moves Forward on Trump-Backed, House-Passed Funding Plan

March 13, 2025
in Americas

Senate Democrats are playing a dangerous game with the American people. In their pursuit to push their own political agenda, they have resorted to a tactic that is nothing short of a Schumer shutdown. This move not only threatens the livelihoods of hardworking Americans, but it also shows a complete disregard for the democratic process and the will of the people.

The Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer, has been leading the charge for a government shutdown in an attempt to force the hand of President Trump and the Republicans to concede on their stance on immigration. This is a blatant disregard for the fact that the American people elected President Trump and the Republican majority in Congress to enact their policies and fulfill their promises. Instead of working towards a bipartisan solution, Senate Democrats have chosen to put their own political interests above the needs of the American people.

But their efforts have not gone unnoticed. Senator John Thune, a Republican from South Dakota, has called their bluff and is moving forward with a funding plan that has the support of President Trump and has already been passed by the House of Representatives. This plan includes funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which provides healthcare for millions of children, and a six-year extension of funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

This move by Senator Thune is a clear indication that the Republicans are committed to finding a solution and keeping the government running. They are not willing to play politics with the lives of American citizens. This is in stark contrast to the actions of Senate Democrats who are willing to shut down the government for their own gain.

The Schumer shutdown is a dangerous game that has real consequences for the American people. It means that essential government services will be disrupted, federal employees will not receive their paychecks, and national parks and monuments will be closed. This is not the way a responsible government should operate.

Furthermore, the Democrats’ insistence on tying immigration to the budget is a flawed strategy. Immigration is a complex issue that requires careful consideration and bipartisan cooperation. Holding the government hostage for this issue is not only irresponsible, but it also shows a lack of respect for the democratic process and the American people.

It is time for Senate Democrats to put aside their political games and work towards finding a solution that benefits all Americans. President Trump has made it clear that he is willing to work with both parties to find a solution for the Dreamers. It is now up to the Democrats to come to the table and negotiate in good faith.

The American people deserve better than a government shutdown. They deserve a government that works for them and puts their needs first. The Republicans have shown their commitment to keeping the government running and addressing important issues such as healthcare for children. It is time for Senate Democrats to do the same.

In the words of Senator Thune, “It’s time for Senate Democrats to stop playing politics and start governing.” The American people are counting on their elected officials to do their job and find a solution that benefits everyone. It is time for Senate Democrats to stop dancing with the devil and start working towards a brighter future for all Americans.
