Indonesia officially becomes BRICS member: Brazil

January 9, 2025
in Asia

Brazil made a significant announcement on Monday, as it welcomed Indonesia as the newest member of BRICS. This move is set to strengthen the bloc of emerging economies, which is seen as a powerful counterweight to the Western-dominated global economic order.

The announcement was made by Brazil’s Foreign Minister, Ernesto Araujo, who said that the inclusion of Indonesia into BRICS is a reflection of the bloc’s commitment to expanding its reach and influence. He also added that the decision was made after careful consideration and consultations with all the member countries, and it was unanimous.

This move will not only further solidify the existing partnership between the five BRICS countries, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, but it will also bring in new opportunities for growth and development. With the addition of Indonesia, the BRICS bloc now represents over 40% of the world’s population and approximately 25% of the global GDP.

For Indonesia, this is a major milestone as it becomes the first country from Southeast Asia to join BRICS. The country has been experiencing rapid economic growth in recent years, and its inclusion into BRICS will only accelerate its progress. Indonesia’s GDP growth rate has consistently been above 5%, and it is projected to become the world’s fourth-largest economy by 2050.

The BRICS bloc has been gaining momentum since its inception in 2009, and the addition of Indonesia is a testament to the success of this partnership. The five countries have been working together to promote economic cooperation, trade, and investment among themselves, as well as with other developing and emerging economies.

The move also sends a strong message to the Western world, as the BRICS bloc continues to challenge the traditional global economic order. With the rise of protectionism and trade wars, the inclusion of Indonesia into BRICS is a clear indication that developing countries are not willing to be sidelined in global economic affairs.

The BRICS countries have been actively working towards creating a more equitable and balanced global economic system, and the addition of Indonesia will only strengthen their efforts. Together, these five nations represent a diverse mix of cultures, economies, and political systems, yet they have managed to come together and form a united front.

The inclusion of Indonesia into BRICS will also open up new avenues for collaboration in areas such as energy, infrastructure, and technology. With Indonesia’s vast natural resources and a growing demand for infrastructure development, this partnership will be mutually beneficial for all the member countries.

Furthermore, this move will also provide a boost to the global trade and investment scenario. With BRICS countries representing a significant portion of the world’s population and economy, their collective voice and actions will have a significant impact on the global trade and investment policies.

The BRICS countries have been actively working towards promoting a multipolar world, where developing countries have an equal say in global affairs. The inclusion of Indonesia into this partnership is a step towards achieving this goal and creating a more balanced world order.

In conclusion, Brazil’s announcement of Indonesia joining BRICS is a significant development that will have a far-reaching impact on the global economic landscape. This move not only strengthens the BRICS bloc but also sends a powerful message to the Western world. Together, these five nations will continue to work towards creating a more equitable and balanced global economic system, promoting trade and investment, and shaping the future of the world economy. The addition of Indonesia is a testament to the success and potential of this partnership, and the possibilities for growth and development are endless. The BRICS bloc is on a path towards creating a better world for all, and this decision will only accelerate their progress.
