On June 7, 2024, in the province of Huíla, specifically in the city of Lubango, a ceremony was held to deliver the certificate for the demined area along the 400 kV Huambo – Lubango electricity transmission line.
The event was attended by key figures including the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges; the Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants, and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade; the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos; the Vice-Governors of Huíla and Huambo; the representative of the African Development Bank for Angola and São Tomé; along with other officials from both ministries and invited guests.
Following the certificate handover, Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade expressed his gratitude for the Ministry of Energy and Water’s efforts that led to this significant occasion, underscoring the importance of the ceremony. In response, Minister João Baptista Borges acknowledged Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade’s crucial role in making the ceremony a success and highlighted the importance of demining in the project’s implementation.
The Minister stated that the primary objective is to boost energy capacity to meet regional demands. He commended the demining work, recognizing it as a vital element for the success of various electrification projects across the country. Additionally, the Minister pointed out that the Huambo-Lubango transmission line project would generate numerous job opportunities for young people, which he deemed highly significant.
The event also included a symbolic presentation of a vehicle to the on-site demining team.
It is noteworthy that the 400 kV Huambo-Lubango Electricity Transmission Line will be constructed in two sections, covering a total distance of 343 km.
