HONG KONG SAR – The 2025 Hong Kong & Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism Architecture (Hong Kong) (UABBHK 2025) has officially concluded on 24 January 2026 with a grand Closing Ceremony held at the Oil Street Art Space (Oi!). The two-month long event, which began on 26 November 2025, has been a resounding success, showcasing the latest innovations and ideas in urbanism and architecture.

The UABBHK 2025 was a joint effort between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, two cities that have been at the forefront of urban development and innovation. The theme for this year’s biennale was “Civic Performance in the Age of AI”, which aimed to explore the impact of artificial intelligence on urban living and how it can be harnessed for the betterment of society.

The biennale featured a diverse range of exhibitions, public programmes, and forums, attracting visitors from all over the world. The main exhibition, “City of the Future”, presented a vision of how AI can be integrated into our cities to create a more sustainable and efficient urban environment. It showcased cutting-edge technologies and designs that could potentially transform the way we live, work, and interact with our surroundings.

One of the highlights of the UABBHK 2025 was the “Future City Forum”, which brought together experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss the role of AI in shaping our cities. The forum sparked thought-provoking discussions and debates on topics such as smart cities, sustainable development, and the ethical implications of AI.

In addition to the main exhibition and forum, the UABBHK 2025 also featured a series of public programmes, including workshops, guided tours, and interactive installations. These programmes aimed to engage the public and encourage them to think about the future of their cities and their role in shaping it.

The biennale also had a strong focus on youth engagement, with the “Next Generation” programme providing a platform for young architects and designers to showcase their ideas and projects. This not only gave them exposure but also allowed them to connect with industry professionals and gain valuable insights into the field.

The Closing Ceremony of the UABBHK 2025 was a fitting end to the two-month long event. It featured a civic performance that showcased the creativity and talent of local artists and performers. The performance was a celebration of the city’s vibrant culture and its ability to adapt and evolve in the face of technological advancements.

The success of the UABBHK 2025 is a testament to the strong partnership between Hong Kong and Shenzhen and their commitment to promoting innovation and sustainable development. It has not only brought together experts and industry leaders but also engaged the public and inspired them to envision a better future for their cities.

As we look towards the future, the UABBHK 2025 has shown us that AI has the potential to revolutionize our cities and improve our quality of life. However, it also reminds us of the importance of responsible and ethical use of technology to ensure that it benefits society as a whole.

In conclusion, the UABBHK 2025 has been a remarkable event that has left a lasting impact on the city of Hong Kong. It has not only showcased the latest advancements in urbanism and architecture but also sparked important conversations about the future of our cities. We can only hope that the ideas and innovations presented at the biennale will continue to shape our cities for the better in the years to come.
