Horrific Mob Justice: TUT Lecturer Killed Near Soshanguve Campus

February 26, 2026
in Africa

An alleged part-time lecturer from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) was brutally killed in a suspected mob justice attack near the institution’s Soshanguve south campus on Tuesday night. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about the safety of individuals in the area.

According to Ward 35 councillor Kholofelo Mashapa, the incident occurred in a street close to the campus in Soshanguve. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was reportedly attacked by a group of individuals who accused him of theft. A video circulating on social media shows the man’s lifeless body lying on the ground, surrounded by a crowd of onlookers.

This horrific incident has once again brought the issue of mob justice to the forefront. While the motive behind the attack is still under investigation, it is clear that this form of vigilante justice has no place in our society. The use of violence to punish alleged criminals not only goes against the principles of our justice system, but it also puts innocent lives at risk.

The Tshwane University of Technology has expressed its shock and sadness at the tragic death of their part-time lecturer. In a statement, the university extended their condolences to the victim’s family and friends, and urged the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

The safety of students and staff is a top priority for any educational institution, and the Tshwane University of Technology is no exception. The university has implemented various safety measures, including security patrols and CCTV cameras, to ensure the well-being of their students and staff. However, it is clear that more needs to be done to address the issue of mob justice in the surrounding areas.

The incident has also sparked a conversation about the underlying issues that lead to mob justice. Poverty, unemployment, and a lack of trust in the justice system are some of the factors that contribute to this form of violence. It is important for the government and community leaders to address these issues and work towards finding sustainable solutions.

As a society, we must also take a stand against mob justice and promote the importance of due process and the rule of law. It is only through a fair and just legal system that we can ensure the safety and protection of all individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances.

In the wake of this tragic incident, it is important for the community to come together and condemn the use of violence as a means of justice. We must stand in solidarity with the victim’s family and friends and demand that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice.

The Tshwane University of Technology has lost a valuable member of their academic community, and our hearts go out to all those affected by this senseless act of violence. Let us honor the memory of the victim by working towards a society where justice is served through legal means, and where every individual is treated with dignity and respect.

In conclusion, the horrific mob justice attack near the Tshwane University of Technology’s Soshanguve south campus is a tragic reminder of the dangers of taking the law into our own hands. It is imperative that we work towards a society where violence is not seen as a solution, and where the rule of law prevails. Let us come together and demand justice for the victim, and strive towards a safer and more just society for all.
