Real Madrid top Deloitte Football Money League as Champions League revamp boosts Premier League’s rivals

January 22, 2026
in Asia

The Champions League is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious and highly anticipated football tournaments in the world. It brings together the best clubs from different leagues, providing a platform for them to showcase their skills and compete for the ultimate glory. However, in recent years, the Champions League has not only been a source of pride and glory for the participating clubs, but it has also become a major source of revenue.

According to the latest Deloitte Football Money League, an expanded and more lucrative Champions League has helped four European giants – Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain – to earn more than any Premier League club last season. This is a significant achievement for these clubs, as the Premier League has long been considered the most financially dominant league in the world.

Real Madrid, the reigning Champions League winners, have once again topped the annual rich list with record-breaking revenue of €1.2bn (£975m). This is a remarkable feat for the Spanish giants, who have been consistently performing at the highest level and dominating both domestically and in Europe. Their success on the pitch has translated into financial success, with their revenue increasing by 11% from the previous year.

Following closely behind Real Madrid is their arch-rivals, Barcelona, who have also had a successful season both on and off the pitch. The Catalan club generated a revenue of €840.8m (£741.1m), which is a 16% increase from the previous year. This can be attributed to their strong performances in the Champions League, where they reached the semi-finals, as well as their dominance in the LaLiga, where they won the title for the 26th time.

Bayern Munich, the German champions, have also made it to the top three of the Deloitte Football Money League, with a revenue of €750.4m (£660.1m). This is a significant achievement for the Bavarian club, who have been consistently performing well in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League. Their success on the pitch has been matched by their commercial success, with their revenue increasing by 14% from the previous year.

The fourth spot on the rich list is occupied by Paris Saint-Germain, the French champions, who have had a remarkable rise in recent years. The Parisian club generated a revenue of €635.9m (£560.5m), which is a 17% increase from the previous year. This can be attributed to their strong performances in the Champions League, where they reached the final for the first time in their history, as well as their dominance in the Ligue 1, where they won the title for the 10th time.

The success of these four European giants can be attributed to the expanded and more lucrative Champions League. The tournament has undergone significant changes in recent years, with the introduction of a new format and an increase in the number of participating teams. This has not only made the competition more exciting and competitive but has also provided the participating clubs with a significant financial boost.

The increased revenue from the Champions League has helped these clubs to invest in top-quality players, state-of-the-art facilities, and innovative marketing strategies. This has not only improved their on-field performances but has also helped them to attract a global fan base and secure lucrative sponsorship deals. As a result, these clubs have been able to generate more revenue and strengthen their financial position.

The success of these four European giants is a testament to the fact that the Champions League has become a major source of revenue for top clubs. It has not only helped them to compete at the highest level but has also provided them with the financial stability to sustain their success. This is a positive development for the world of football, as it ensures that the best clubs have the resources to continue to entertain and inspire fans all over the world.

In conclusion, the latest Deloitte Football Money League has once again highlighted the financial dominance of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain. Their success on the pitch has been matched by their financial success, thanks to the expanded and more lucrative Champions League. This is a positive development for these clubs and for football as a whole, as it ensures that the best clubs have the resources to continue to compete and entertain at the highest level.
