Hammanskraal Woman Granted R5,000 Bail After Death Of Neighbour’s Four-Year-Old Son

February 6, 2026
in Africa

A 38-year-old woman from Hammanskraal, Tselane Lebohang Mautlu, has been granted bail of R5,000 after being accused of fatally shooting her neighbour’s four-year-old son. The incident, which took place in the Chris Hani area, has sparked strong reactions from the community.

According to reports, Mautlu appeared in the Themba Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, where she faced a charge of murder in connection with the death of Abokeng Minyuko. It is alleged that Mautlu shot the young boy, who was playing outside his home, in a fit of rage.

The tragic incident has left the community in shock and disbelief. Many are struggling to come to terms with the fact that a young life has been lost in such a senseless manner. However, amidst the grief and anger, there is also a sense of relief that justice is being served.

Mautlu’s release on bail has been met with mixed reactions. While some believe that she should have been denied bail, others are of the opinion that she is innocent until proven guilty and should be given a fair trial. The court has deemed her not to be a flight risk and has ordered her to hand over her passport and not to leave the country without the court’s permission.

The incident has once again highlighted the need for stricter gun control laws in South Africa. It is a sad reality that innocent lives are being lost due to the easy access to firearms. The government needs to take urgent action to address this issue and ensure the safety of its citizens.

In the wake of this tragedy, the community has come together to support the grieving family. A memorial service was held for young Abokeng, where community members and leaders gathered to pay their respects. This show of solidarity and support is a testament to the strength and resilience of the community.

While nothing can bring back the life that was lost, it is important for the community to come together and heal from this tragedy. We must also remember that Mautlu is innocent until proven guilty and should be given a fair trial. It is crucial for the justice system to take its course and for the truth to prevail.

In conclusion, the death of Abokeng Minyuko is a tragic and heartbreaking event that has left the community of Hammanskraal in shock. However, it is heartening to see the community coming together to support each other and seek justice for the young boy. Let us hope that this incident serves as a wake-up call for stricter gun control laws and that justice is served for Abokeng and his family.
