Bonn, Germany – Newsaktuell – 3 February 2026 – The future of our global food system looks brighter than ever as the Seed Grant Finalists, Growth Grant recipients, and Seeding the Future Grand Prize Semifinalists of the 5th annual Seeding The Future Global Food System Challenge (GFSC) have been announced. This marks a significant milestone in the USD 1 million global Challenge, which aims to support impactful and innovative solutions to the pressing challenges facing our food system.

The GFSC, launched in 2022, has quickly become one of the most prestigious and sought-after global food system challenges in the world. With a focus on promoting sustainable and inclusive solutions, the GFSC has attracted thousands of applications from innovators, entrepreneurs, and organizations from around the globe.

Out of the many impressive applications received, 10 Seed Grant Finalists have been selected to receive USD 100,000 each to further develop their ideas and projects. These finalists were chosen based on their potential to make a significant impact in addressing key challenges in the global food system, such as food insecurity, climate change, and resource depletion.

Among the 10 Seed Grant Finalists are innovative ideas such as using blockchain technology to ensure transparency and sustainability in the supply chain, developing plant-based alternatives to meat, and implementing regenerative farming practices to improve soil health and reduce carbon emissions.

In addition to the Seed Grant Finalists, 20 Growth Grant recipients have been selected to receive USD 50,000 each to scale up their existing projects and make an even greater impact. These recipients have already demonstrated significant progress in their work and have the potential to become game-changers in the food system.

The 20 Growth Grant recipients include projects focused on reducing food waste, promoting sustainable fishing practices, and developing affordable and nutritious food options for low-income communities.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there. The Seeding the Future Grand Prize Semifinalists have also been announced, with 5 projects selected to compete for the USD 500,000 grand prize. These semifinalists have shown exceptional promise in transforming our food system and have the potential to become global leaders in the field.

The 5 semifinalists include projects that aim to revolutionize vertical farming, create sustainable packaging solutions, and develop innovative technologies to improve food production in developing countries.

The Seeding the Future Global Food System Challenge has not only attracted a diverse range of innovative ideas but has also fostered a global community of like-minded individuals and organizations working towards a common goal – a more sustainable and equitable food system for all.

“The quality and diversity of the applications we received this year were truly outstanding,” said Dr. Maria Garcia, the Director of the GFSC. “We are thrilled to see so many passionate and dedicated individuals and organizations working towards a more sustainable and equitable food system. We believe that these finalists and semifinalists have the potential to make a real difference in the world.”

The finalists and semifinalists will now have the opportunity to attend a virtual boot camp where they will receive mentorship, training, and networking opportunities to further develop their projects. They will then pitch their ideas to a panel of expert judges, who will select the final winners of the Seed Grant, Growth Grant, and Seeding the Future Grand Prize.

The winners will be announced at the GFSC’s annual summit, which will take place in September 2026 in Bonn, Germany. The summit will bring together food system experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss the most pressing challenges facing our food system and showcase the innovative solutions developed by the finalists and semifinalists.

The Seeding the Future Global Food System Challenge is not only a competition but also a platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing. It has the potential to drive real change and create a more sustainable and equitable food system for generations to come.
