Kasich: Republicans Are in Trouble Because They Went Too ‘Far Right’

January 3, 2026
in Americas

In a recent interview on “MS NOW Reports,” former Governor John Kasich (R-OH) expressed his concerns about the upcoming midterm elections for the Republican party. According to Kasich, the party is in trouble because they have gone too far right after President Donald Trump’s 2024 win. This statement has caused quite a stir among political analysts and party members alike.

Kasich, who served as the Governor of Ohio from 2011 to 2019, is known for his moderate views and has been a vocal critic of President Trump. In the interview, he stated that the Republican party has lost its way and has strayed from its core values. He believes that the party’s shift towards the extreme right has alienated many voters and will ultimately lead to their downfall in the upcoming elections.

The former Governor’s comments come at a crucial time for the Republican party, as they gear up for the midterm elections in November. With control of the House and Senate at stake, the party is facing a tough battle against the Democrats. And according to Kasich, their chances of success are slim if they continue down the path of extremism.

Kasich’s concerns are not unfounded. In recent years, the Republican party has become increasingly polarized, with many members aligning themselves with President Trump’s controversial policies and rhetoric. This shift has caused a divide within the party, with moderate Republicans feeling marginalized and left out.

The former Governor believes that this shift towards the far right has also alienated many independent and moderate voters, who are crucial for the party’s success. He stated, “We have to appeal to the middle. We have to appeal to the people who are not hardcore Republicans or Democrats. And we have to appeal to the people who are not hardcore Trump supporters.”

Kasich’s comments have been met with mixed reactions from within the party. Some have dismissed his concerns, stating that the party is united behind President Trump and his policies. Others have welcomed his words, seeing them as a wake-up call for the party to re-evaluate its direction.

But regardless of the party’s response, Kasich’s message is clear – the Republican party needs to return to its core values and appeal to a broader base of voters if they want to succeed in the upcoming elections. He believes that the party needs to focus on issues that matter to the American people, such as the economy, healthcare, and immigration, rather than divisive rhetoric and extreme policies.

Kasich’s words should serve as a warning to the Republican party. If they continue down the path of extremism, they risk losing the support of moderate and independent voters, which could ultimately lead to their downfall in the midterm elections. It is time for the party to come together and find a way to appeal to a broader base of voters, rather than catering to a small, vocal minority.

In conclusion, former Governor John Kasich’s comments on the state of the Republican party should not be taken lightly. His concerns are valid, and the party would do well to listen to his words. It is time for the party to return to its core values and appeal to a broader base of voters if they want to succeed in the upcoming elections. As Kasich stated, “We have to be a party of ideas, not a party of personalities.” Let us hope that the party takes his words to heart and works towards a more inclusive and moderate approach in the future.
