African Union to not recognize Sudan’s ‘so-called parallel govt’

July 31, 2025
in Africa

The African Union (AU) has taken a firm stance against the recent declaration of a rival government in Sudan by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). In a statement released on Wednesday, the AU made it clear that it will not recognize this illegitimate government and called upon all member states to do the same. This decision by the AU comes at a crucial time as Sudan has been embroiled in a two-year long civil war, and the formation of a rival government will only further exacerbate the situation.

The RSF, a paramilitary group that was originally formed to quell the Darfur conflict, has declared the formation of a new government in Sudan, claiming that the current transitional government has failed to bring stability and address the grievances of the people. However, the AU has made it clear that this move by the RSF is not only unconstitutional but also a threat to the peace and stability of the country.

In its statement, the AU emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and the respect for democratic processes. The AU also urged all parties involved to engage in dialogue and find a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict. This is a commendable step by the AU, as it shows its commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.

The AU has also called upon member states to support the legitimate transitional government in Sudan and to reject any attempts to undermine it. This is crucial as the AU has a significant role to play in ensuring that the transition to a democratic government in Sudan is successful. The AU’s support will also send a strong message to the RSF and other armed groups that their actions will not be tolerated.

The AU’s decision has been welcomed by the international community, with many countries expressing their support for the AU’s stance. This is a testament to the AU’s credibility and influence in the region. It also shows that the international community stands united in its support for the legitimate government in Sudan and its efforts to bring peace and stability to the country.

The AU’s decision to not recognize the rival government in Sudan is a bold and necessary move. It sends a clear message to the RSF and other armed groups that their actions will not be tolerated and that the AU stands firmly with the people of Sudan in their quest for peace and democracy. It also shows the AU’s commitment to upholding its principles of promoting good governance, democracy, and respect for human rights.

The AU has also called upon the international community to provide support and assistance to the legitimate government in Sudan to help it address the challenges it faces. This support is crucial as Sudan continues to struggle with a fragile economy, high levels of poverty, and a humanitarian crisis. The international community must stand in solidarity with Sudan and provide the necessary support to help the country overcome these challenges.

In conclusion, the AU’s decision to not recognize the rival government in Sudan is a positive step towards promoting peace and stability in the region. It sends a strong message to all parties involved that the AU will not tolerate any attempts to undermine the rule of law and democratic processes. The international community must also stand with the AU and support its efforts to bring an end to the conflict in Sudan. It is only through collective efforts and a commitment to dialogue and peaceful resolution that Sudan can overcome its challenges and move towards a brighter future.
