Exclusive–Trump Pardon Attorney Ed Martin Looking at Derek Chauvin Pardon: ‘That Was Not a Fair Trial’

On Tuesday’s “Alex Marlow Show,” DOJ pardon attorney Ed Martin discussed the ongoing debate surrounding a potential pardon or commutation for Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd.

During the interview, Martin stated that he is currently looking into the case as the pardon attorney and believes that Chauvin did not receive a fair trial.

“I am, Ed Martin, as pardon attorney, looking at it. I’m looking at it very closely,” Martin said. “I think that was not a fair trial.”

Martin’s comments come as many have called for Chauvin to receive a pardon or commutation, citing concerns about the fairness of his trial and the potential for political bias in the jury selection process.

Chauvin was convicted in April of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd. The incident, which was captured on video, sparked nationwide protests and calls for police reform.

However, Martin believes that Chauvin’s conviction was not based on the evidence presented in court, but rather on the intense media coverage and political pressure surrounding the case.

“I think the media has been so intense and so one-sided that it’s hard to imagine that a jury could be fair,” Martin said. “And then you add to that the political pressure that’s been put on the case, and it’s hard to imagine that a jury could be fair.”

Martin also raised concerns about the potential for political bias in the jury selection process, pointing out that the jury was not sequestered during the trial and was exposed to outside influences.

“I think there’s a real question about whether the jury was fair and impartial,” Martin said. “They were not sequestered, they were exposed to all kinds of outside influences, and I think that’s a real problem.”

Martin’s comments have sparked further debate about the fairness of Chauvin’s trial and the potential for a pardon or commutation. While some argue that Chauvin deserves a second chance, others believe that he should serve his full sentence as a form of justice for George Floyd and his family.

Regardless of one’s stance on the matter, it is clear that the issue of a potential pardon or commutation for Derek Chauvin is a complex and controversial one. As the DOJ pardon attorney, Ed Martin’s role is crucial in determining the outcome of this case.

In the end, the decision will ultimately rest with President Trump, who has the power to grant pardons and commutations. It remains to be seen whether he will take Martin’s concerns into consideration and make a decision that he believes is fair and just.
