Transportation Sec. Sean Duffy Urges Travelers to ‘Dress a Little Better’ and Be Polite on Flights

November 26, 2025

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has urged travelers to practice “civility” and “dress a little better” while traveling. In a recent statement, he emphasized the importance of maintaining a respectful and positive attitude during the busy travel season.

With over 55 million travelers expected to take to the skies during the Thanksgiving week, airports and planes are sure to be crowded and hectic. In order to ensure a smooth and enjoyable travel experience for all, Secretary Duffy has encouraged passengers to be mindful of their behavior and appearance.

One of the key points Secretary Duffy stressed was the importance of civility. This means being polite and considerate of others while traveling. Whether it’s waiting in line at security, navigating through the airport, or sitting in a crowded plane, it’s important to remember that everyone is in the same boat and a little kindness can go a long way.

In addition to practicing civility, Secretary Duffy also urged travelers to “dress a little better.” While this may seem like an unusual request, it actually has a significant impact on the overall atmosphere of a flight. By dressing nicely, passengers not only show respect for themselves, but also for their fellow travelers. It sets a positive tone and helps create a more pleasant and comfortable environment for everyone.

Secretary Duffy’s advice is especially timely in light of recent incidents involving unruly passengers. In the past year, there have been numerous incidents of disruptive behavior on flights, causing delays and disruptions for other passengers. By practicing civility and dressing nicely, travelers can help prevent these types of incidents from occurring.

But beyond just avoiding negative incidents, Secretary Duffy’s call for civility and better dress also has a deeper meaning. It speaks to the importance of treating others with kindness and respect, even in stressful situations. As we all know, traveling can be a stressful experience, but by keeping a positive attitude and showing consideration for others, we can make it a more enjoyable and pleasant experience for everyone involved.

In addition to Secretary Duffy’s message, many airlines have also taken steps to promote civility and respect among their passengers. Some have implemented campaigns and programs to encourage passengers to be mindful of their behavior and interactions with others. These efforts, combined with Secretary Duffy’s call for civility and better dress, will hopefully lead to a more peaceful and harmonious travel experience for all.

So as you prepare to embark on your Thanksgiving travels, remember Secretary Duffy’s words of wisdom. Be kind, be respectful, and dress nicely. Let’s make this holiday season a time for spreading positivity and joy, even in the midst of busy airports and crowded planes. Happy travels to all!
