Peter Schweizer: How Race-Based Districts Rig Elections Before the First Vote Is Cast

October 23, 2025
in Americas

In any democratic society, the integrity of the electoral system is of utmost importance. Every citizen has the right to cast their vote and have that vote accurately counted. However, the issue of voting security often takes center stage only during election time, while the threat of manipulation of our electoral system looms over us all year round. As the 2020 US presidential election approaches, it is more critical than ever to address this issue and take steps towards ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process.

In a recent article, Peter Schweizer, a renowned political commentator, sheds light on a lesser-known method of rigging elections – race-based districts. In this system, electoral districts are redrawn by politicians to create a highly concentrated group of voters based on race, ethnicity, or political affiliation. While this may seem like a harmless strategy, it has alarming implications for the fairness of our elections.

The concept of race-based districting originated in the 1990s as an attempt to remedy racial discrimination in election outcomes. However, instead of bringing about equality, it has led to the marginalization of certain groups of voters. Schweizer points out that in these districts, political candidates only need to appeal to the majority group to secure their votes, making them less accountable to the needs and concerns of minority voters. This effectively leads to the silencing of their voices and dilution of their voting power.

But the most alarming consequence of race-based districting is the manipulation of electoral outcomes before the first vote is even cast. When district lines are drawn to favor a particular race or political party, the results of the election are predetermined, rendering the votes of other groups meaningless. This undemocratic practice undermines the very essence of our electoral system and erodes public trust in the process.

Moreover, race-based districts create a breeding ground for extremist ideologies. With politicians catering to the extreme views of the majority group, it marginalizes moderates and promotes polarization, ultimately leading to a divided society. This is a grave concern in today’s political climate, where inflammatory rhetoric and division seem to be on the rise.

The solution to this problem lies in redistricting reforms that prioritize fairness and transparency. In his article, Schweizer suggests two key reforms – the elimination of gerrymandering and the introduction of multi-member districts. Gerrymandering, the practice of drawing district lines to benefit a particular party, has been a major contributor to the creation of race-based districts. Eliminating this practice through independent redistricting commissions would ensure that districts are drawn solely based on geographical and demographic factors, rather than political interests.

On the other hand, multi-member districts, where several representatives are elected from the same district, would promote diversity and inclusivity in our electoral system. This system would allow for a more accurate representation of the diverse voices and interests in a district, rather than the dominance of a particular group.

It is also essential for voters to be informed about the implications of race-based districting and demand fair redistricting processes. Citizens must hold their elected officials accountable and demand reforms that promote equality and fairness in elections. Furthermore, it is crucial for political candidates to reach out to all voters, regardless of their race or political affiliation, and address their concerns. This would ensure that the issues and needs of all citizens are taken into consideration, and no one group is marginalized or ignored.

In conclusion, while voting security is undoubtedly a pressing issue, we must also address the threat of manipulation of our electoral system through race-based districting. As the 2020 US presidential election approaches, it is imperative for us to demand reforms that promote fairness and inclusivity in elections. Only with a transparent and accountable electoral process can we truly uphold the values of a democratic society. Let us come together and make our voices heard in the fight against race-based districting.
