Poll: New Jersey Voters Approve of Trump More Than Their Democrat Governor

May 17, 2025
in Americas

President Donald Trump’s approval rating in New Jersey has once again proven to be a force to be reckoned with, as a recent poll shows that he is more popular among voters in the state than their Democrat governor, Phil Murphy. This is certainly a negative sign for Democrats, who have been hoping to make gains in traditionally blue states like New Jersey.

The poll, conducted by the reputable research firm, SurveyUSA, found that 49% of New Jersey voters approve of President Trump’s performance, while only 44% approve of Governor Murphy’s. This is a significant difference, especially considering that New Jersey is known for its strong Democratic leanings.

This news comes as a surprise to many, as New Jersey has been a stronghold for the Democratic Party in recent years. However, it seems that President Trump’s policies and actions have resonated with the people of the state, leading to a rise in his approval ratings.

One of the key reasons for this could be the strong economy under President Trump’s leadership. The unemployment rate in New Jersey has dropped to a record low of 3.3%, and the state has added over 50,000 jobs since Trump took office. This is a stark contrast to the economic struggles that New Jersey faced under the previous administration.

In addition to the economy, President Trump’s tough stance on immigration and border security has also struck a chord with voters in the state. New Jersey, like many other states, has been impacted by illegal immigration, and the President’s efforts to secure the border and enforce immigration laws have been applauded by many.

Furthermore, President Trump’s commitment to putting America first and prioritizing the needs of American citizens has also resonated with voters in New Jersey. This is evident in his efforts to renegotiate trade deals, bring back jobs to the United States, and strengthen the country’s national security.

On the other hand, Governor Murphy’s policies have not been as well received by the people of New Jersey. His proposed budget, which includes a number of tax increases, has faced backlash from both Republicans and Democrats. This has led to concerns about the state’s financial stability and the impact it will have on the average New Jersey resident.

Moreover, Governor Murphy’s support for controversial policies such as sanctuary cities and driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants has also drawn criticism from many in the state. These policies go against the views of many New Jersey residents and could be a contributing factor to his lower approval ratings.

The fact that President Trump’s approval rating in New Jersey is higher than Governor Murphy’s is a clear indication that the people of the state are recognizing the positive impact of the President’s policies. It also serves as a warning to Democrats that their current approach may not be resonating with voters and could potentially hurt their chances in the upcoming elections.

This is not the first time that President Trump has shown strong support in traditionally Democratic states. In fact, he won the state of New Jersey’s 14 electoral votes in the 2016 presidential election, a feat that had not been achieved by a Republican candidate since 1988.

The latest poll results are a clear indication that President Trump’s popularity in New Jersey is not a fluke, and that he continues to gain support in the state. This is a positive sign for the President and the Republican Party, as it shows that their message is resonating with voters across the country.

In conclusion, the recent poll results showing President Trump’s higher approval rating in New Jersey compared to Governor Murphy’s is certainly a negative sign for Democrats. It highlights the growing popularity of the President in traditionally blue states and serves as a warning to Democrats that they need to reassess their approach if they want to remain competitive in these states. With the 2020 elections approaching, it will be interesting to see how these poll numbers will impact the political landscape in New Jersey and the rest of the country.
