Azerbaijan-Armenia peace talks nearing success: Trump

July 15, 2025
in Asia

U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about the ongoing peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan, stating that they are making significant progress and could soon reach a successful conclusion. The two countries have been engaged in a long-standing conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which has resulted in numerous casualties and displacement of civilians.

In a statement on Monday, President Trump said, “We just seem to have Armenia and Azerbaijan getting along much better now. There seems to be a lot of good feeling going on. Long-standing conflicts are breaking up. We have a lot of progress being made in the Middle East with Israel and others. And we’re very happy about that.”

The President’s remarks come after a series of meetings between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan, mediated by the United States, Russia, and France. The talks have been ongoing since the recent escalation of violence in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which saw the worst clashes between the two countries in decades.

President Trump’s positive outlook on the peace talks is a significant development in the conflict, as the United States has been actively involved in finding a resolution. The President’s statement also reflects the efforts of the international community to bring an end to the long-standing dispute.

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan dates back to the early 20th century when both countries were part of the Soviet Union. The Nagorno-Karabakh region, which is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, has a majority Armenian population and has been a source of contention between the two countries.

The recent escalation of violence in the region has raised concerns about the safety and security of civilians living in the conflict zone. The clashes have resulted in the loss of lives and displacement of thousands of people, causing a humanitarian crisis.

However, with the progress being made in the peace talks, there is hope for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Both Armenia and Azerbaijan have shown a willingness to engage in dialogue and find a mutually acceptable solution.

President Trump’s statement has been welcomed by leaders from both countries, with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressing his gratitude for the United States’ support in the peace process. He also stated that the talks have been constructive and have brought the two countries closer to a resolution.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev also expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the peace talks, stating that the negotiations have been fruitful and have created a positive atmosphere for further discussions.

The international community has also praised the efforts of the United States in mediating the talks and bringing the two countries closer to a resolution. The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, stated that the progress in the peace talks is a positive development and urged both sides to continue their efforts towards a peaceful solution.

The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, also welcomed the progress in the peace talks and called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. He emphasized the importance of dialogue and urged both countries to work towards a lasting solution that respects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.

As the peace talks continue, it is crucial for both Armenia and Azerbaijan to maintain the positive momentum and work towards a peaceful resolution. The international community must also continue to support the efforts towards finding a lasting solution to the conflict.

In conclusion, President Trump’s statement on the progress of the peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan is a positive development that brings hope for a peaceful resolution to the long-standing conflict. The efforts of the international community, along with the willingness of both countries to engage in dialogue, are crucial in finding a lasting solution. Let us hope that the talks will lead to a peaceful and prosperous future for the people of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
