Chicago’s Ex-Top Cop Busts Gov. Pritzker for ‘Ironic’ Safe Neighborhood Video

October 14, 2025
in Americas

Former Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy recently spoke out against Illinois Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker for his anti-Trump video, calling it “ironic” and criticizing the governor for not doing enough to keep Chicago’s neighborhoods safe.

In the video, which was released on Twitter, Governor Pritzker can be seen walking through a neighborhood and talking about the importance of creating safe communities. He also takes a swipe at President Trump, saying that “unlike some people in Washington, we believe in building bridges, not walls.”

However, McCarthy, who served as Chicago’s top cop from 2011 to 2015, was quick to point out the irony of the governor’s message. He stated that while Pritzker may talk about building bridges, he has failed to address the real issue of crime and violence in Chicago.

McCarthy pointed out that under Pritzker’s leadership, Chicago has seen a significant increase in crime, with the city experiencing its deadliest year in decades in 2020. He also noted that the governor has not taken any concrete steps to address the root causes of crime, such as poverty and lack of economic opportunities in disadvantaged communities.

The former police superintendent also criticized Pritzker for his lack of support for law enforcement. He stated that the governor has not done enough to support the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to keep Chicago safe. McCarthy believes that this lack of support has contributed to the rise in crime and violence in the city.

McCarthy’s comments have struck a chord with many Chicago residents who are tired of the city’s ongoing crime problem. They see the governor’s video as nothing more than empty words and are calling for real action to be taken to address the issue.

In response to McCarthy’s criticism, Pritzker’s office released a statement defending the governor’s record on crime. They pointed to the fact that Pritzker has invested millions of dollars in violence prevention programs and has worked to improve community-police relations. However, many Chicagoans feel that these efforts have not been enough to make a real difference in their neighborhoods.

McCarthy’s comments have also sparked a larger conversation about the state of Chicago’s leadership. Many are questioning whether Pritzker and other Illinois politicians truly have the best interests of the city’s residents at heart. They argue that instead of focusing on political posturing and attacking President Trump, the governor should be working to address the pressing issues facing Chicago.

In the end, McCarthy’s criticism serves as a reminder that actions speak louder than words. While Governor Pritzker may talk about creating safe neighborhoods, the reality on the ground tells a different story. It is time for the governor to take real action and work towards making Chicago a safer and better place for all its residents.

In conclusion, Garry McCarthy’s criticism of Governor Pritzker’s anti-Trump video has shed light on the pressing issue of crime and violence in Chicago. His comments have sparked an important conversation about the city’s leadership and the need for real action to address the problem. It is time for Governor Pritzker to listen to the concerns of Chicagoans and work towards creating safer communities for all.
