Ireland could boycott Eurovision 2026 over Israel’s participation

September 13, 2025
in Europe

Ireland has always been a country that values justice, equality, and human rights. As a nation, we have always stood up for what we believe in and have never been afraid to voice our opinions. And now, we are once again taking a stand for what is right.

In a bold move, Ireland’s national broadcaster RTE has announced that the country will boycott the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest if Israel takes part. This decision comes after the recent events in Gaza, where innocent lives have been lost due to the ongoing conflict.

Participation in the Eurovision Song Contest is a matter of pride for many countries, and Ireland is no exception. However, we cannot turn a blind eye to the atrocities being committed in Gaza. It is unconscionable for us to participate in an event alongside a country that is responsible for such violence and injustice.

The decision to boycott the Eurovision Song Contest is not an easy one, but it is the right one. As a nation, we have always been vocal about our support for human rights and the Palestinian cause. This boycott is a way for us to show our solidarity with the people of Palestine and to send a strong message to the world that we will not stand for injustice.

Ireland has a long history of supporting the Palestinian cause. In 2014, we became the first European country to recognize the state of Palestine. We have also been a strong advocate for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which aims to put economic and political pressure on Israel to end its occupation of Palestinian territories.

The decision to boycott the Eurovision Song Contest is not just a symbolic gesture; it is a call to action. We urge other countries to join us in this boycott and show their support for the Palestinian people. It is time for the international community to take a stand against the ongoing violence and human rights violations in Gaza.

We understand that this decision may not be popular with everyone, but it is the right thing to do. As a country, we cannot turn a blind eye to the suffering of innocent people. We cannot sit back and watch as lives are lost and families are torn apart. We must take a stand and use our platform to bring attention to this issue.

Some may argue that the Eurovision Song Contest is a non-political event and that we should not mix politics with music. However, we believe that music has the power to bring people together and to spread important messages. By boycotting the Eurovision Song Contest, we are using our voices to raise awareness about the situation in Gaza and to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

We also want to make it clear that our boycott is not directed towards the Israeli people. We have no ill feelings towards them, and we believe that they, too, deserve to live in peace and security. Our boycott is solely directed towards the Israeli government and its actions in Gaza.

In conclusion, Ireland’s decision to boycott the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest is a powerful statement against the ongoing violence and injustice in Gaza. We hope that other countries will join us in this boycott and use their platform to bring attention to this important issue. Let us stand together and show the world that we will not tolerate human rights violations and injustice in any form. Together, we can make a difference and bring about positive change.
