RSF attacks kill 100 in Sudan’s Omdurman: Medics

April 9, 2025
in Africa

At least 100 people were killed in a series of brutal attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Omdurman, the twin city of Sudan’s capital Khartoum. The attacks, which took place on Monday, have left the entire nation in a state of shock and mourning.

According to local medics, the RSF, which is a government-backed militia, launched a coordinated assault on several neighborhoods in Omdurman, targeting civilians and setting homes on fire. The victims included men, women, and children, with some as young as five years old.

Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos and devastation as families were forced to flee their homes in a desperate attempt to escape the violence. Many were left injured and traumatized, while others lost their loved ones in the senseless attacks.

The RSF, which was formed in 2013, has been accused of numerous human rights violations, including the use of excessive force against civilians. However, this recent attack in Omdurman has been described as one of the deadliest in the history of Sudan.

The international community has condemned the attacks, with the United Nations calling for an immediate investigation into the matter. The UN also urged the Sudanese government to hold those responsible accountable for their actions and to ensure the protection of civilians.

The Sudanese people have also taken to the streets in protest, demanding justice for the victims and an end to the violence. The protests, which have been ongoing since the ousting of former President Omar al-Bashir in April, have now gained momentum as the people demand a peaceful and democratic transition of power.

The Sudanese Professionals Association (SPA), which has been at the forefront of the protests, released a statement condemning the attacks and calling for a nationwide strike in response. The strike, which has been widely supported by the people, aims to put pressure on the government to take action against the RSF and to ensure the safety of its citizens.

The international community has also expressed concern over the safety of protesters and activists who have been at the forefront of the pro-democracy movement. Many have been arrested and detained by the government, and there are reports of torture and mistreatment in detention centers.

The recent attacks in Omdurman have only added to the already tense situation in Sudan. The people of Sudan have been through decades of oppression and violence under the rule of al-Bashir, and they are now demanding a better future for themselves and their children.

The international community must stand in solidarity with the people of Sudan and support their quest for a peaceful and democratic transition. The Sudanese government must also take immediate action to ensure the safety of its citizens and hold those responsible for the attacks accountable.

In the face of such tragedy, it is heartening to see the resilience and determination of the Sudanese people. They have shown incredible strength and unity in the face of adversity, and their unwavering commitment to a better future is truly inspiring.

As we mourn the loss of innocent lives in Omdurman, let us also remember that their deaths will not be in vain. The people of Sudan will continue to fight for their rights and for a better future, and we must stand with them in their struggle. Together, we can bring an end to the violence and pave the way for a peaceful and democratic Sudan.
