‘Downright False’: Karoline Leavitt Torches Media over Russia-Ukraine Negotiation Coverage

August 20, 2025
in Americas

In a fiery White House briefing on Tuesday, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt took the media to task for their coverage of President Trump’s recent negotiations with Russia, Ukraine, and European leaders. Her passionate defense of the administration’s diplomatic efforts earned her high praise from Vice President JD Vance, and rightly so.

Leavitt began by addressing the recent headlines surrounding the negotiations, calling them “downright false” and “misleading.” She pointed out that the media has chosen to focus on sensationalized stories rather than reporting the facts, which has led to a gross misrepresentation of the administration’s actions.

One of the main issues Leavitt addressed was the media’s portrayal of Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Despite the progress made in discussions about nuclear arms control and cooperation in the Middle East, the media chose to focus on the unsubstantiated claims of Russian interference in the 2016 election. Leavitt rightly called out this biased reporting, stating that it is “detrimental to the relationship between our two countries and to the security of our nation.”

Leavitt also took aim at the media’s coverage of Trump’s conversations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The media has painted these discussions as inappropriate and potentially damaging to national security, without any solid evidence to support these claims. Leavitt stressed that the administration’s goal in these negotiations is to protect American interests and strengthen relationships with our allies, not to harm them.

Furthermore, Leavitt pointed out that the media has largely ignored the positive outcomes of these negotiations. For example, the recent agreement between the U.S. and Ukraine to bolster energy cooperation has received little attention, despite its potential to reduce Europe’s reliance on Russian gas and strengthen Ukraine’s energy independence. Leavitt also highlighted the administration’s efforts to secure a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine, which has largely gone unnoticed by the media.

Vice President JD Vance praised Leavitt for her strong defense of the administration’s actions, stating that she “hit the nail on the head” in her criticism of the media. He also emphasized the importance of holding the media accountable for their biased reporting and urged Americans to seek out the facts for themselves rather than relying on sensationalized headlines.

Leavitt’s bold and unapologetic stance against the media’s biased coverage of the administration’s negotiations sends a powerful message. It shows that the White House will not stand for the spread of misinformation and will continue to work towards achieving America’s best interests, despite the media’s attempts to undermine their efforts.

In the age of 24-hour news cycles and clickbait headlines, it is more important than ever to have strong and principled individuals like Karoline Leavitt defending the truth. Her unwavering commitment to transparency and fact-based reporting is a breath of fresh air in a media landscape that often prioritizes sensationalism over accuracy.

In conclusion, Leavitt’s passionate defense of the administration’s negotiations with Russia, Ukraine, and European leaders is a reminder that we must not blindly trust the media’s narrative. We must seek out the facts and hold the media accountable for their biased reporting. As Vice President JD Vance stated, “the truth matters, and we will continue to fight for it.” Let us hope that the media will take heed of Leavitt’s message and strive for more responsible and accurate reporting in the future.
