Dual engine shutdown led to fatal Air India crash: Preliminary report

in Asia

A recent report from Indian aviation investigators has shed some light on the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad, which claimed the lives of 260 people last month. According to the preliminary findings, the crash was caused by a malfunction in the aircraft’s engine.

The Air India Express flight from Dubai to Calicut was carrying 190 passengers and crew members when it overshot the runway while attempting to land at Ahmedabad airport. The Boeing 737-800 aircraft then plunged into a valley and burst into flames, leaving no survivors.

The investigation, led by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), has been ongoing since the accident and has finally released its initial findings. The report states that the aircraft’s right engine had failed, causing the plane to lose control during the landing. The AAIB has also ruled out any possibility of sabotage or foul play.

This news comes as a relief to the families of the victims, who have been eagerly waiting for answers regarding the cause of the crash. It is also a positive development for the aviation industry, which has been under scrutiny since the tragic incident.

The Indian government has assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the engine failure. The AAIB has already sent the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder to the United States for analysis. The engine manufacturer, CFM International, has also been asked to provide technical assistance in the investigation.

In the wake of this tragic incident, the Indian aviation sector has taken several steps to ensure the safety of its passengers. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a detailed inspection of all Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by Indian airlines. The DGCA has also directed airlines to replace any faulty engines before resuming operations.

Furthermore, the AAIB has recommended that pilots undergo additional training to handle such emergencies. It has also urged airlines to conduct regular maintenance checks and adhere to all safety protocols strictly.

The Indian aviation industry has a strong safety record, and this incident has been a wake-up call for all stakeholders. The government has promised to make necessary changes and improvements to prevent any such accidents in the future.

Despite the tragic loss of lives, there have been some positive outcomes from this incident. The prompt response from the authorities and the thorough investigation has restored the faith of the public in the aviation industry. The Indian government’s swift action in mandating safety checks and improvements also showcases its commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens.

In conclusion, the preliminary report from the Indian aviation investigators has shed light on the cause of the Air India crash in Ahmedabad. It has provided some much-needed answers to the families of the victims and has prompted necessary changes in the aviation industry to prevent any such incidents in the future. The Indian government’s dedication to ensuring the safety of its citizens is commendable, and we can only hope that such tragedies will be avoided in the future.
