Politico: Donors Not Enthused About Potential Kamala Harris Run for California Governor

June 30, 2025
in Americas

As the dust settles from the historic 2020 US Presidential Election, attention has now turned to the future of former Vice President Kamala Harris. With her groundbreaking election as the first female, Black, and South Asian American Vice President, many are wondering what’s next for this rising political star. One potential option that has been swirling in political circles is a run for California governor. However, top Democrat donors are not quite sold on the idea just yet.

According to a recent report by Politico, many donors are still recovering from Harris’ failed presidential campaign and are hesitant to back her for another high-profile race so soon. Despite her strong performance in the Democratic primary, Harris ultimately dropped out of the race due to lack of funding and support. This has left some donors feeling cautious about investing in her political future.

“Kamala Harris is a talented and capable leader, but her recent presidential campaign has left some of us questioning whether she is ready for such a significant role as governor,” a top donor who preferred to remain anonymous told Politico.

There is no denying that Harris has an impressive political resume. She has served as the District Attorney of San Francisco, the Attorney General of California, and the Junior Senator from California. Her experience and achievements have propelled her to the national stage and made her a household name. However, some donors are concerned that her presidential campaign may have exposed some potential weaknesses.

“We saw her struggle to connect with voters and define her message during the presidential campaign, and that is a cause for concern. We need a strong leader who can unite our state and effectively address the challenges we are facing,” another donor expressed.

California has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has highlighted the need for strong leadership in the state. As the most populous state in the country, California has faced many challenges, including high unemployment rates, homelessness, and wildfires. Many donors believe that the next governor will have a crucial role in guiding the state towards recovery and addressing these pressing issues.

While some donors may have reservations about Harris’ potential candidacy, others are more enthusiastic. She has already received support from prominent figures in the Democratic Party, including California Governor Gavin Newsom and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Moreover, her historic election as Vice President has only solidified her position as a key player in the party.

“Harris is a true trailblazer, and her leadership is needed now more than ever. We have seen her ability to navigate the political landscape and bring about meaningful change. I have no doubt that she would make an excellent governor for California,” said another donor.

Despite the mixed reactions from donors, Harris has not officially announced her candidacy for governor. She has remained focused on her duties as Vice President and has not made any public comments about her plans for the future. However, her potential run for governor has sparked a debate within the Democratic Party about the best strategy for the party’s future success in the state.

In the end, the decision will ultimately lie with Harris herself. She has proven time and time again that she is a formidable leader and has the ability to rise above challenges. Whether she decides to pursue the governorship or continue her role as Vice President, one thing is certain: Kamala Harris is a force to be reckoned with in American politics.

In conclusion, while top Democrat donors may have reservations about a potential Kamala Harris run for California governor, there is no denying her impact and potential as a leader. Her accomplishments and experience make her a strong contender for the position, but it will ultimately be up to her to decide if she is ready to take on this new challenge. Whatever her decision may be, one thing is certain: Kamala Harris will continue to inspire and break barriers in the world of politics.
