National Archives Withheld Biden Photos After Targeting Trump over Documents

December 28, 2024
in Americas

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is responsible for preserving and providing access to the historical records of the United States government. However, recent events have raised questions about the agency’s impartiality and its handling of sensitive documents.

According to reports, the NARA withheld photographs of then-Vice President Joe Biden meeting with business associates of his son, Hunter Biden, in China until after the 2024 election. This decision has sparked controversy and calls for transparency from the agency.

It is concerning that the NARA would choose to withhold such important records, especially in light of their past actions. In contrast, the agency aggressively pursued then-former President Donald Trump over records that eventually became the subject of a major federal prosecution.

This raises questions about the NARA’s motives and whether they are truly dedicated to upholding their mission of preserving and providing access to government records.

The photographs in question were taken during a trip that then-Vice President Biden made to China in 2013 with his son, Hunter Biden. At the time, Hunter was involved in a business venture with a Chinese energy company. The NARA initially denied access to these photographs, citing privacy concerns.

However, this decision has been met with criticism and accusations of political bias. It is not the first time that the NARA has been accused of favoring one political party over another. In 2016, the agency faced similar accusations when they released documents related to the Watergate scandal during the height of the presidential election.

The timing of the NARA’s decision to withhold the Biden photographs is also questionable. By choosing to release them after the 2024 election, the agency is essentially shielding the current administration from any potential backlash or scrutiny.

This unequal treatment of records is a cause for concern. The NARA should not be playing favorites when it comes to preserving and providing access to government records. It is their duty to ensure that all records are treated equally and without bias.

Furthermore, the NARA’s actions are in direct contrast with their pursuit of records related to former President Trump. In 2019, the agency launched an investigation into the Trump administration’s handling of classified documents. This eventually led to a major federal prosecution.

The fact that the NARA was so quick to investigate and prosecute the Trump administration, while simultaneously withholding records related to the current administration, is troubling. It raises questions about the agency’s integrity and whether they are truly dedicated to their mission.

The NARA must be held accountable for their actions. They must provide a valid explanation for their decision to withhold the Biden photographs and address concerns about their impartiality. The American people deserve transparency and equal treatment when it comes to government records.

In conclusion, the recent actions of the National Archives and Records Administration have raised concerns about their impartiality and dedication to their mission. The decision to withhold photographs of then-Vice President Biden’s meeting with business associates in China until after the 2024 election, while aggressively pursuing records related to former President Trump, is unacceptable.

The NARA must uphold their duty to preserve and provide access to government records without bias or favoritism. It is essential for the agency to maintain the trust of the American people and ensure the integrity of our historical records. Let us hope that the NARA will take the necessary steps to address these concerns and uphold their mission with the utmost integrity.
