Europe must become master of ‘own destiny’: EU Council president

November 12, 2024
in Europe

EU Council President Charles Michel called on Europe to take control of its own destiny during a speech on Thursday, responding to the news that Donald Trump would be returning to the U.S. presidency. In a passionate address, Michel urged Europeans to stand united and take charge of their future, rather than relying on outside influences.

“We have to be the masters of our own fate,” Michel declared, addressing a crowd of European leaders and citizens. “The world is changing rapidly, and we cannot afford to sit back and wait for others to shape our future for us. It is time for Europe to take control and steer its own course.”

Michel’s call for greater autonomy comes as a response to the news that Donald Trump will be resuming his position as President of the United States. During his previous term, Trump had a tumultuous relationship with European leaders, often criticizing their policies and pushing for a more isolationist approach. Now, with his return to office, there is concern among European leaders about the impact it may have on the continent.

However, Michel remained optimistic and urged Europeans to see this as an opportunity to come together and take charge of their own destiny. “We cannot control the actions of others, but we can control our own actions,” he stated. “Let us use this moment to unite and focus on what we can do for our own future.”

The EU Council President highlighted the many challenges currently facing Europe, including the ongoing pandemic, climate change, and geopolitical tensions. He stressed the importance of a united Europe in facing these challenges and emphasized the need for Europe to take a leading role on the global stage.

“We must not shy away from our responsibilities as a global power. It is time for Europe to step up and take its place as a leader in the world,” Michel urged. He also pointed out that with the United States’ recent decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement, it is up to Europe to continue the fight against climate change and set an example for other nations to follow.

Michel also acknowledged that there are differences among European countries, but he emphasized the need to find common ground and work towards a shared vision for the future. “We may have different perspectives and approaches, but we are bound together by our shared values and our common future,” he stated.

The EU Council President also called on Europeans to have greater faith in their own abilities and potential. He reminded them of Europe’s long and rich history, filled with resilience and strength in the face of adversity. “We have overcome challenges before, and we will overcome them again. We have the talent, the resources, and the determination to shape our own destiny,” Michel declared.

As a parting message, Michel urged Europeans to embrace change and not be afraid to take risks in pursuit of a better future. “We should not be afraid of change, but rather see it as an opportunity for growth and progress. Let us take control of our own destiny and shape a better, more prosperous future for all Europeans,” he concluded.

In conclusion, EU Council President Charles Michel’s call for Europe to take control of its own destiny comes at a crucial time. With the return of Donald Trump to the U.S. presidency, it is more important than ever for Europe to unite and stand strong in the face of challenges. Michel’s speech was a powerful reminder that Europe has the potential to be a global leader and that it is time for Europe to take charge of its own future. Let us heed his call and work together to shape a brighter tomorrow for all of Europe.
