Turkic states mark 15th anniversary of their major collective

The Organization of Turkic States (OTS), a key international body for the integration of the Turkic world, celebrated its 15th anniversary on Thursday. Originally founded as the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States in 2009, the OTS has played a crucial role in promoting cooperation, unity, and development among its member states. As we mark this milestone, it is important to reflect on the achievements of the OTS and its vision for the future.

The OTS was established with the aim of strengthening the bonds between the Turkic-speaking nations and promoting their common interests. Today, the organization has grown to include six member states: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. These nations share a common history, culture, and language, and the OTS has provided a platform for them to come together and work towards shared goals.

Over the past 15 years, the OTS has made significant strides in promoting economic, cultural, and political cooperation among its member states. One of its major achievements has been the establishment of the Turkic Council in 2010, which serves as a permanent body for the coordination and implementation of joint projects and initiatives. The Council has played a key role in promoting trade and investment among member states, with the total trade volume increasing from $2.6 billion in 2009 to $8.2 billion in 2020.

The OTS has also been instrumental in promoting cultural exchange and preserving the rich heritage of the Turkic world. The International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), which was established under the auspices of the OTS, has organized numerous cultural events, festivals, and exhibitions to showcase the diversity and richness of Turkic culture. These initiatives have not only strengthened cultural ties among member states but also promoted the Turkic culture on the global stage.

In addition to economic and cultural cooperation, the OTS has also played a crucial role in promoting peace and stability in the region. The organization has been actively involved in resolving conflicts and promoting dialogue among its member states. The OTS has also been a strong advocate for the rights of Turkic communities around the world, working towards their integration and empowerment.

As the OTS celebrates its 15th anniversary, it is important to acknowledge the challenges that the organization has faced and overcome. The global pandemic has posed unprecedented challenges, but the OTS has shown resilience and adaptability in the face of these difficulties. The organization has continued to work towards its goals, utilizing virtual platforms to hold meetings and conferences, and launching initiatives to support member states during these challenging times.

Looking towards the future, the OTS has a clear vision for further promoting cooperation and integration among its member states. The organization has identified key areas of focus, including trade and investment, tourism, science and technology, and education. The OTS has also set a goal of increasing the total trade volume among member states to $20 billion by 2023, which would further strengthen economic ties and promote prosperity in the region.

The OTS has also expanded its reach beyond its member states, forging partnerships with other regional and international organizations. These partnerships have enabled the organization to promote the interests of the Turkic world on a global scale and strengthen its position as a key player in the international arena.

In conclusion, the Organization of Turkic States has made significant strides in promoting cooperation, unity, and development among its member states over the past 15 years. As we celebrate this milestone, it is important to recognize the achievements of the OTS and its vision for the future. The organization has played a crucial role in promoting the interests of the Turkic world and will continue to do so in the years to come. Let us join hands in congratulating the OTS on its 15th anniversary and supporting its efforts towards a stronger, more united Turkic world.
