Russia should make previously banned missiles: Putin

July 1, 2024
in Europe

Russian President Vladimir Putin has made a bold and decisive move by announcing that Russia should restart producing short and intermediate-range missiles. This decision comes after the United States withdrew from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, which banned the production and possession of such missiles. This move by President Putin not only showcases Russia’s determination to protect its national security interests but also sends a strong message to the world about its commitment to maintaining a strong defense.

First signed in 1987 by the United States and the Soviet Union, the INF Treaty was considered a landmark agreement that helped reduce tensions between the two superpowers and played a crucial role in ending the Cold War. It banned the production, testing, and deployment of ground-launched missiles with ranges between 500 and 5,500 kilometers. This treaty provided a sense of security and stability for both countries and the world at large. However, the recent withdrawal of the United States from the treaty has changed the dynamics of the global arms control landscape.

In his statement, President Putin highlighted the fact that Russia has always adhered to its international commitments and has continuously expressed its concerns and objections to the United States’ violation of the INF Treaty. He emphasized that the United States’ withdrawal from the treaty has forced Russia to take necessary measures to protect its national security interests. Restarting the production of short and intermediate-range missiles is a crucial step towards maintaining a balance of power and ensuring the safety of the Russian people.

The decision to produce these missiles also serves as a strong deterrent against potential threats from other countries. With the rise of global terrorism and the increasing number of conflicts around the world, it is essential for Russia to have the means to defend itself and its allies. Short and intermediate-range missiles provide a cost-effective and efficient way to counter any potential threats, thereby strengthening Russia’s defense capabilities.

Moreover, the resumption of missile production will also have a positive impact on the Russian economy. The production of these missiles will create new jobs and provide a boost to the country’s defense industry, which is a crucial sector of the Russian economy. This move by President Putin demonstrates his commitment to not only protecting the country’s national security but also promoting economic growth and development.

Some may argue that the decision to restart producing these missiles will lead to an arms race and increase tensions between Russia and the United States. However, President Putin has made it clear that Russia is not seeking an arms race and is open to dialogue and negotiations with other countries. He has also expressed his hope that the United States will come to its senses and return to the INF Treaty. Russia’s decision to produce these missiles is not a threat to any other country but a necessary step to ensure its own security.

In conclusion, President Putin’s decision to restart producing short and intermediate-range missiles is a bold and necessary move to protect Russia’s national security interests. It sends a strong message to the world that Russia will not compromise its defense capabilities and will take necessary measures to maintain a balance of power. This decision also highlights Russia’s commitment to upholding its international agreements and promoting global stability. With this move, President Putin has once again showcased his strong leadership and determination to protect his country and its people.
